Mahler 150th Anniversary: DG or EMI?

Hey all!

I'm interested in getting one of these two collections. I've gotten into classical music a lot this past year, but am still a relative noob, although having a few favorite pieces I've listened to for years. From your experience, which is the better collection? I find that bang for your buck collections like this are a good place to start; and if you don't like them, there is a descent resell market. Here are links if you want to take a look:

or

Thanks for any advice!

Both are excellent sets and a good way to sample Mahler.

Everyone will have different opinions on which is better.

My advice would be to have a look around and see which one you can get the cheapest.

There was a discussion of these two sets quite recently, I think in the long thread on Mahler symphonies - seek and ye shall find.   I have the EMI set, which I like, but I can't compare.

I'd give a slight edge to the DG version, just because it has Solti's 8th, Kubelik's 1st, and Bernstein's 5th.
