From their site's FAQ:

"6 watts is more than enough to let the magic smoke out of most headphones. Except orthos ... Lyr packs a serious punch, and we expect that you’re grown-up enough to use it with respect, and to turn it down when your headphones start making sounds of distress"

In other words, don't be a moron and crank the volume up all the way and you'll be fine.

I've listened extensively to the Lyr/T1 combination with no issues whatsoever. Personally, I find the T1 to be a relatively demanding headphone -- moreso than the LCD-2, to be honest -- and think that a lot of the "bass light" comments I've seen about the Beyers are related to inadequate or inappropriate amping.

I haven't tried any of the other Schiit amps, so unfortunately I have no comparative judgement to offer. I do like the sound of the T1/Lyr combo, though... not as good as the WA2, but that's to be expected.

You find the T1s that demanding?  I listen to them through my Fiio E9 with the knob between 8 and 9 o'clock.  I've noticed that the dynamics are completely fine once I get the knob at 9 or above but that is a bit louder than I'm comfortable with for long term listening.

Btw, my T1s sound about neutral or a bit on the warm side.  The treble is very sweet and bass is wonderful with great texture, extension, and quantity.

Either I really like my music quiet or the E9 is a pretty beefy piece of equipment, especially for the price.

I think the Valhalla has some of that classic "tube like" sound, but it is not nearly so warm and lush like the WA5LE I've compared it to. I am listening to the T1 right now through the Marantz 2265B and I think there is more treble than on the Valhalla. I pressed the 'Loudness' button and found the bass quantity to improve noticably. I think this is a good pairing as well, but I do prefer the Schiit amp.

As it was mentioned before, if you can swing the WA2 or the CSP2+, do it. Or get the Valhalla as a half-way-there step. I really think OTL amps are the way to go with the T1.

The Valhalla is one that I'm really considering. How would you describe the sound of the Valhalla/T1 pairing versus that of other amps? I read that the Valhalla sounds more like a SS than a tube?

I find them moderately demanding. As a very transparent headphone, changes in amping (both power and SQ) seem to make a pronounced difference. I notice the difference in low-level listening (as you mention), dynamics across the frequency range, and (quite simply), I need to turn up my amp when moving from the LCD-2 to the T1 to reach the same volume.

Of course, very few things rival the HE-6 in terms of amping needs...

Exactly.

It is possible to destroy drivers with excess power, but you will need to make an effort to do so by turning the volume well past listening level.  Be sure to keep them well away from you as they will play excruciatingly loud before they die.

The destructive enemy of transducers, especially tweeters, is distortion from an inadequately powered amp asked to play louder than it can do so easily.

Olias, does the Lyr volume control provide sufficient adjustment so that you can listen to the T1 and make small changes as desired?

Good question. From memory, I'd say it has a small but usable adjustment range. Tube choice is relevant here. Going from a 6BZ7 to a 6922, for example, results in a noticeably increased adjustment range.

I will pay closer attention to this tonight (if I can, with new LCD-3s on my desk) and report back with more specifics tomorrow.

I'm glad to see this thread alive. I've had my T1 for 17 months and they still sound awesome(that means I have no urge to upgrade/ find stuff to sell). I know there's better out there but this price was a stretch for me. 5 years ago, spending $300 for HD650 was hard to swallow.

I'm still using my 6 year-old WA3...even more amazing that this amp hasn't been replaced.

It is interesting to see only the "L" mark on the inner side of the headband while the "R" mark is missing. The serial of my example is 2088. Just curious, who has the most recent serial number?

Thats great and if the T1 and Woo are synergistic no need to replace. the amp as I have never even thought of replacing my CSP2.

I've got the very first pair of T1s sold in Canada (Jan 2010)...serial number 11XX and they from DAY 1 have only had the "L" marked....they left the "R" for the user to figure out.
