Just out of curiosity, did you find the T1s bright?  because for me they were far from bright and when I jumped straight from the HD800 - I thought they were dark...that is because I got used to the HD800.  The HD800s have a nice way of, even though a tad bright, integrating its entire frequency range smoothly - a trait shared with the HD650. 

 

With the T1s, one can really appreciate the tight mid bass, and crisp highs - to me they are more analytical, in a way, than the HD800.  Analytical in that with the T1 one can break down bass, midrange and treble into separate entities very easily, and enjoy the individual merits of each in their own space.  In this regard the HD800 is smoother and more musical - with a smooth, natural treble tilt - the downside being one cannot easily identify where the bass ends and midrange begins or when the midrange ends and the treble begins - just like in the HD650 (which used to be my favorite can).

 

 

 

I just briefly heard them for a couple of hours, so I haven't really made my mind about how I really feel about them, but my first impression is that they had slightly more bass than the 800, and overall had a warm-ish signature, but bright is not a word I would have used, but I really feel I need more time to really explore them sometime, particularly since I was undecided of how I feel about the treble.

 

In fact if the 800 didn't exist I would probably have ended up with T1 or K1000 as my main dynamic headphone, I could see (at least partially) why some people love the T1. But the 800 are excellent at the things I look for (driver agility or "speed", mids, holographic presentation, natural bass). But that does not mean that I won't try the T1 (and others) more in the future.

Speaking of the K1000, I see a K1000 bass heavy in my future.  I heard winks K1000 bass light....something about them, not sure what - I need to listen to them some more.  They are nothing like any can I have ever heard, ever.  Big wow factor when I put them on for the first time.
 

My new T1 have arrived today. Excellent building and sound quality!!!

There's a set of new, open-box Beyer T1s on HeadRoom at the moment. 985.00, and includes shipping, I believe. Nice bargain there for someone.

Just a few weeks/months ago I got the DT880 600ohm headphones, and I'm so happy with the Beyers sound and build quality that I'm already considering upgrading to the T1's. Unfortunately my wallet is looking rather thin, so I would have to sell my DT880's to afford the T1's. So I have to make sure I will not miss them for any reason 

 

- Cups/pads are small and may push against your ear. Are they smaller than on the DT880? Those were big enough for me anyway

- The headband has too little padding, again is this less padding than on the DT880?

 

In answer to your question, I think my DT880 was the most comfortable headphone that I have ever worn.  However, the T1 is still reasonable comfortable.  The T1 pads are slightly smaller, but still big enough for almost any ears.  IMO, I found the T1's sound to be superior in every way over the DT880.  However, I had the 250ohm version and the 600ohm version may sound better.  As soon as I did a few A/B test, I never listened to the DT880s again.  However, the T1s sounded different that the DT880,  They are not just a "better" version of the DT880, rather a different sound.  Any time 2 headphones sound different, opinions enter the mix.  I cannot say that if you listened to both that you would come to the same conclusion that I did.  If you sell the DT880s and later question whether or not you liked the DT880s better, you will no longer have the old DT880 to compare.  Could be a problem.

I have been at the ifa trade show in Berlin and returned with a pair of T1

here I already built a class a zero feedback headphone amplifier which is connected to a Marantz sa7001 analog output

the combo is sensational

crisp hights , sweet midrange , very deep and exicting low frequency response

the stereo image is amazing both 2d  left -right and from center to front

the dynamic are also spectacular

many times happen to me star hearing sounds that appereared to me comming outside the headphones

I am really happy with these headphones and I am shure i just think could be sound even better

What a way to join Head-fi with a pair of T1s! Wow....impressive.

May I ask what amp your using with them?

 

I see so the pads really are slightly smaller, on the pictures the T1 headphones looked bigger. It's rather difficult to buy headphones without being able to see or try them in real life. I'm pretty confident however that I will like the sound of the phones. I'm mainly worried about the "ergonomics" of the T1 as I'm used to the super comfy DT880's, 

The DT880s have slightly less clamping and are lighter...no doubt, but the T1s are very comfortable too. I would rank the top 3 comfortable headphones: HD800 > DT880 > T1 > everything else that I've ever had on my head.

I just compared my T1 pads to those of my 880s, and they look to be the same size, but the T1 pads are a bit deeper. That, coupled with the different internal shape of the earcup and the lack of a foam pad makes them roomier to my ears. Very comfortable, but noticeably heavier than the 880s.

I think if you like the 880s, you'll really like the T1s. As much as I liked the 880s and 990s, neither are getting any head time since getting the T1s. I did try a brief stint with the 990s a few weeks after getting the T1s, and the 990 bass that I used to like so much sounded boomy and uncontrolled, and without the depth of the T1s.

The T1s have totally spoiled me!

Finally I got the chance to listen to T1 after many chances passing by.  I have pre-order T1 twice and have to cancel both after more than a month of wait each time due to different reasons.  

Being a very satisfied DT880/600 owner, I have tried to guess how T1 may be better.  I have to admit that after just a few minutes of listening I though that I made big mistake getting T1.  It reminds me the sound of K702 (as some Headfilers felt the same way): a little too thin, too sterile at mid to high frequency comparing to DT880/600 recabled with mogami wire.  It is quite a culture shock.

Although it is unfair to T1 since it is SE comparing to DT880 balanced to to Phoenix.  After switching between them a few times, I realized that DT880 has a very nice sonic "halo" that sweetened the sound so beautifully that I hate to loose that signature.  But on the other hand, T1 (even with SE connection) shows much well defined soundstage and brings the solo instrument or voice out of the background so well that in contrast DT880 totally blend them into the sonic scene. T1 also enhances some details that were not apparent with DT880 in a sense that T1 almost make my ear "bleeding" with information overload.  

I have never thought any phone can make my Phoenix+Ref combo sounded aggressive and T1 with SE connection actually did it.  It is just slightly but it is there.  Or maybe I just can't handle those new details?!

After several hours of listening, I finally start to embrace T1's sound as a very interesting contrast to DT880/600.  There are some family traits between them but they also sounds so different in a good way.  I would love to keep both since they give me completely different enjoyment.

Then, after work I tried T1 with my Decware CSP2+ OTL amp at hoome.  Wow, it sounded quite different, almost like another phone.  It seems that Phoenix, Ref-1, CSP2+, and T1 are so revealing in their own way, the combination of them becomes very interesting.  In order to really enjoy T1 with CSP2+, I probably need to bring CSP2+ to work for Ref-1.  We will see.

A very interesting day to say at least...
