Wow that's a beautiful amp you have there. Good luck with the sale!

Make sure to let us know how the new build compares with the T1.

I can tell you that already... I think Jamie is going to be a very happy man!! :-D

Has anyone here moved up to their T1s from lower tier Beyers? I have an opportunity to get a pair of T1s for $650 that are in great condition but I am wondering specifically how they compare to the DT990s I currently have. Is the treble as piercing on the T1s as it is on the 990s? Are the mids as recessed?

From some short sessions with a friend's DT990, I would say the treble is definitely much better (not piercing like 990, but still airy) and the mids are nicely present with good weight. The mids are slightly recessed from neutral perhaps, but the better balance across all frequencies of the T1 makes it a much better all around headphone IMO

Can't compare with the DT990's but if you have heard the DT880s I can point you here for an in depth comparison:

It might help - especially if you've heard the DT880,

At USD 650, I'd be grabbing the T1.  Deserved flagship status IMO - and at the moment the pricing is too good to say no.

The DT990/600Ω was my main headphone for almost two years, before I bought the T1, and I still use it in my secondary listening rig.

To me, the treble does not sound piercing with either headphone. If a song calls for loud highs, both headphones will deliver. The T1 is more resolving and accurate (I can hear more details in a bigger soundstage) and the bass is just fantastic. The DT990 is a bit bass-heavy, whereas the T1 goes even deeper but much better controlled. And also very important, the T1 is even more comfortable to wear, for me at least.

If you like the sound of the DT990, then the T1 is an excellent upgrade.

Same situation.  Moved from DT990 600Ω to T90s to T1.  I still have all three.  As you would expect the T1s are the best followed by the T90s and the DT990s.  Similarities across all 3 of them.

Thanks for all of the comments guys I will be pulling the trigger on them!  What do you guys use for amps? Right now I am using a modi/magni stack, but will upgrade in the near future. I saw a second hand beyer A1 selling for $375 which looks like a decent deal. I would probably like to stay solid state if I'm honest.

I haven't tried a lot of amps with the T1 when I had it, but the Violectric V200 came on top of my (short) list with the T1. The bass has strong impact with meticulous tightness, mids was lively more forward and the slight treble roll-off helps with the 8.5kHz treble peak. Transparency may not be the best, but IMO a very solid amp for the T1.

If you're looking at approximately $1k, I'd strongly recommend the WA2. With the T1s, that was a great combination!

I realized a couple of days ago that I have been exclusively listening to my Senn's and ATH's for the past year or so. My T1's + WA2 were in the living room and I guess I never listen there anymore. So I moved them both back to the study and fired them up. Glorious! I am once again reminded why, of my various headphone-amp combos, the T1-WA2 is still my absolute favourite for pure musical enjoyment; lush, fluid, full, enveloping without losing precision and detail.

If you have the capital, the WA2 is easily the best amp for the T1 (that I have tried). Don't think I will ever sell mine.

Yeah I've been reading good things as well about the WA2, in fact it was once my dream amp as I read it drives the T1 and HD800 impeccably. But, after I heard the HD800 out of several high-end amps (BHA-1, HDVA600, Taurus Mk.2), the goal sort of changed :p
