No, what I'm trying to say is T1 is not as hard to drive as HE-6 to sound right like most people think. In most cases T1 can sound good with less powerful amps than HE-6 can. My T1 sounds good enough driven directly by my DX90's HO.

Fair enough. But it can sound very rich and lush off a desktop amp. I have run it both off a portable setup and a desktop setup. smily_headphones1.gif

My Alpha dogs and DT 880 600 ohm run great on the Lyr 2, and the very few times I really turned the volume dial past 12 o clock, the sound did not distort at all . I have only used stock tubes, with about a 160 hours on them. I will start rolling tubes later this month. I plan on getting the t1 for my birthday later this year.

The Alpha Dogs are a great sounding headphone... much more 'lush' then the T1 in my opinion.  But yeah if you want an open headphone the T1 also has it's merits, especially at the sale prices it has been going for lately.

Anyone using Chord Hugo to drive T1? I wonder how it sounds. I'll be using Hugo only, no other amp.

I auditioned that combo a couple of times. The Hugo is more than capable, I just didn't like how the T1s sounded with it: overly bright to my ears, to the point of harshness at times. I know there are other T1 owners who disagree though and have said they like the combo (search Hugo on this thread), so I guess it's a matter of personal taste, as ever!

Thanks for your opinion. I'm thinking of either HD800 or T1 but lower price of T1 is surely attractive. I like my HD650s' forgiving nature but want a pair of more revealing headphones with bigger soundstage.

IMO the T1 is more forgiving than the HD800.

Tried the T1 with the Vioelectric V281. I've been eyeing the V200 for the last year but the V281s were absolutely stunning. It actually sounded better than with the HD800s (I'm a fan of electronica and rock). Any thoughts about the combo? Or are there better for the price tongue.gif I'm interested in calming the treble on the T1, they're a bit harsh after a while

To me it sounds organic, liquid detailed , Hugo drives the T1s easily and sounds fantastic!

I am - and I like it. Hugo drives them well.  They are relatively bright and I have found this a problem in the past - could not stick with the MDAC for this very reason - but I don't find this a problem with the Hugo, even on lengthy listening sessions.

Having said that I've got an LCD-X on its way because, you know, Headfi

Well obviously we're all different in the ears dept, but. I totally disagree! They sounds organic and silky smooth through the Hugo with a decent soundstage. The HD 800 s sound bright through the Hugo, as they do through many amps, though the Hugo even tames these to a certain extent

Head-Fi, a magical land where its occupants' wallets are turned into dust and ashes, and what used to be inside those so-called 'wallets' turns into magical chain of equipment with the ability to emit addictive string of noises :p

Yeah I remember disagreeing with you before about this one - all I can say is we must have very different ears, cos I'd almost go as far as to use the epithet 'punishing' myself! Maybe I'm just particularly sensitive to brightness; I've really struggled with the T1's peaky treble ever since I bought them - as much as I like them in most other departments, it's the one real drawback of the phones IMO.
