I had 2 pairs of HD800s, one has the early and one has the late serial number ( 2xxxx ) . Just recently, I bought a T1 from buydig too ( with $740, a bit more than the discount price now ). When I heard the T1 with my Bottlehead Crack for the 1st time, I nearly couldn't believe my ears, the T1 was better in many genres than the HD800s ( except for classical ), especially the midrange. I sold one of my HD800s right away.

So I guess maybe the HD800s are more superior in terms of 'accuracy' and 'technical factor', but I've never had the same feeling when I listened to vocals with the HD800s as I had with the T1s. I don't care if this headphone has a more balanced FR, it has a bigger soundstage or it provides a more 'accurate' sound, the only thing I care is how I feel about the music. We're all here, sharing experiences to each other on our passion, the love for 'music', NOT 'sound'. As long as I enjoy and have a good time listening to music, everything else doesn't matter to me. In that region, the T1s, IMHO, actually do a better job than the HD800s.

I'm not saying the T1s sound 'better' than the HD800s, they just match my 'taste' perfectly and give me the enjoyment I've never had with the HD800s.

Well said ! This is pretty much the way I feel with the T1s . They just make listening to music a pleasure. The HD 800s are technically magnificent, but this is both a strength and a weakness, especially concerning the conveyance of emotional content in music!. I like them and the Audeze lcd-x, but I find myself gravitating back to the T1s quite frequently!

Thank you for the kind words!

My T1 will arrive soon. currently looking for a decent amp for it.

What kind of amp? What budget? Any other cans you own?

If you don't have and don't care for low impedance cans, get an OTL tube amp, like the Schiit Valhalla, the Woo WA3, the Little Dot amps

If you do have other cans that are low impedance, you might want Solid State or maybe Transformer Coupled, like the FiiO E17, the Schiit Asgard, the WA6 (awesome amp). There are a TON of Solid State amps around this price which is awesome for buyers

Anyone using a non stock cable want to comment on what works well with the T1?

I bought mine used ~18 months ago, and I've noticed some wear around where the cable exits the cup on one side.  The shielding looks about worn through...  Expecting to just buy a cable and solder it on myself cause I don't know of anyone local and don't want to ship it to the US and back or anything.

But what kind of cables do people like?

Norne Audio Skoll cable works for me.  seller is absolutely tops to deal with and he even offers cables in solder ready form.

He was one of the ones I'd already emailed about whether he offered the cables in that form this morning, and I just bought off him cause he's already added the option to the standard ordering form and everything... very good service, and nice looking cables!

Just got mine, very disappointed :( As much as i wated to like these (great design, very comfortable), the sound is super mushy and nowhere near as clear as in TH-900 or even AKG 3003i. They do sound better than my HD595 lol Could it have to do with me using SoundBlaster ZXR for amplification? It's supposed to be able to drive 600ohms.

Never tried it but it's hard to believe a soundcard, no matter how good, could drive T1's to anywhere near their potential.

If T1 sounds super mushy, something with your setup must be super wrong.

A T1 shouldn't sound that bad , even with an internal soundcard

I guess they don't sound horrible but they clearly can't resolve nearly as much detail as the TH900. So for instance I'm listening to M83 Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, track 2 (Unrecorded) at around 3:00 there's a lot of intricately layered high frequency synth that T1 just doesn't seem to be capable of resolving :( And somehow it translates into emotional impact being a lot weaker. Some layers that I can clearly hear on TH900 are just not there with T1.

Perhaps it's not a fair comparison since TH900 is double the price of T1.

Don't know TH900, nor the music you were referring to. T1 are known for their crazy peaks and dips in the treble region, so they can exhibit various types of sound signature depending on what they are fed. Have you tried different music genres (preferably including acustic music) to find out if the mushiness persists?
