EDIT: obviously this one is sold, but it was just to indicate that they are in your price range.

Out of everything I've owned and heard, I keep coming back to the HD600 and HE400. I've owned the HD800s and found them too neutral and lacking emotion. I also own the LCD2 and while they seem closer to what I'm looking for, they seem to lack musicality. They sound great but I'm never pulled into the music I listen to in the way the HE400 and HD600 seem to do and the soundstage seems closed in.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Mmmhh...The T1 is far from warm and coloured, it is transparent and on the lean side of things compared to the planar magnetics you reference.

To my ears and on my setups, the T1s and LCD 2s (Dec 2013) are very similar in terms of overall signature except that the T1 is significantly more open / distant in the soundstage and have more treble energy, but they are closer than they are different I think.

For the OP, I think the T1s will give you what you like about the HD600s, but with extra transparency and energy. I upgraded from the HD650s to the T1s and also own LCD 2s (which I love), but the T1s are still my favourite of all the non-Stax headphones I've tried.

Interesting you find the LCD2 similar to the T1 - I've never heard the LCD2 but had thought from others impressions they were at the other end of the warmth spectrum.

Anyway - I love the T1, I find exceptionally musical.  It is a great all rounder, very open and transparent and with excellent imaging.

Yeah. I was really surprised when I first had the chance to try them side-by-side with my T1s and a friend's LCDs. At the time I decided to not buy LCDs because they were similar enough that I felt they'd be redundant. I bought HE-500s instead. Later though I tried the LCDs again and was blown away when driven by the SEX amp. With the warmer, more powerful SEX amp, the LCDs became irresistible while the T1s are perfect on the Mainline. I split head time 50/50 between both rigs now.

Strange indeed, LCD-2 (2.2 to be exact) is nowhere near similar to T1 when I auditioned LCD-2. In general, T1 is bright compared to LCD-2.

LCD-2's bass is well extended and more solid than T1. But the upper mids and treble are recessed in comparison to T1.

Maybe it depends on the amp as my initial comparison was on the Mainline which may be slightly under-powered for LCDs

This is how I heard it when I auditioned off an Musical Fidelity HPA M1

I'm moving from a tube amp to SS.

What do you think of this as a set up?

Mac Mini > Metrum Octave MKII > Violectric V200 > T1 | LCD 2.2

Most likely the case. On both instance I used a SS amp. The IFI amp and the O2.

The Violectric amps look more than capable enough. It's one of the amps the O2 designer used to compare his creation. I'm considering getting the V90 myself.

I have the Octave MK1 paired with V200 and T1.  Love it.  If you like a natural sound, slightly warm, highly recommended.

Thanks AVL06.

Do you sacrifice detail for naturalness with the Octave? I'm after both.

Cheers

I am the PROUD new owner of T1's #9284 :)

I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised how awesome these say using my Note 3 + FiiO E18 on high gain.

My Desktop O2/ODac w/RCA's should be here Monday. I am at a point that I am (mostly) content.

I would like to get another tube amp some day, but if I do, it will probably only be a LD1+ with some different tubes.

I know that if I stick around here, I will be tempted to try all kinds of different headphones, amps, dacs, etc...

Congrats on your purchase! Welcome to the T1 community! I'm sure that you'll enjoy the T1 :D

Happy listening!
