I became quite fond of current Beyerdynamic gear in the last year or so... really love their clear presentation, not abusing effects to beef up sound but staying true to the recording without over-analyzing and by that destroying the fun. Others have a different take on that and may find them overly analytic (which I think of the HD800 btw)... But to my preferences the T1 is next to perfect when driven by either the Phonitor 2 or the A2.

I recently heard the Pandora IV and VI at High End in Munich. Their dimensions looked almost identical, but somehow the IV fit my ears much better (the pads on the VI were not deep enough). Both had quite some low end in a fun way although a bit too soft, not controlled enough, and more than I can enjoy for a longer listening session. I don't use my M-100 at home either...

yup, the newer pads on the IV is deeper, but i really like the tonality of the VI....

havent got a chance to listen to the phonitor...nor the A2, will look out for them.

Have u tried the T5p?  on your amps?

I'll have another look at them soon... definitely a fun headphone with a nice design (though I don't like the gold versions ;-)

Not yet, but I'll do so as soon as I got some time for playing around. Was too fascinated with the A2+T1 combo so far... and a bit too much work right now.

I have been looking for some feed back on the Chord Hugo with the T1's does anyone recall seeing anything or perhaps are using it?

I'm currently using the T1s with the Chord Hugo, and it's good to my ears. The Hugo certainly has enough to drive the T1s to earbleed levels.

Thanks, could you expand a little further on how it compares to other amps and dacs you have tried with your T1's ?

Although I don't have much head-fi experience, I can try. The only other dac/amp that I have used extensively with the T1 is the Woo Audio WA7. I think the bass hits a little harder with the WA7/T1 combo; I sometimes find myself wanting a more impactful bass on certain songs with the Hugo/T1 combo. I also think the soundstage is a little larger and has more depth with the WA7 than the Hugo for the T1s, although I can't be sure of this because I've been away from the WA7 for about a month now. On the other hand, the Hugo seems to have the advantage of having a smoother and more realistic treble to my ears. Overall, I think the presentation of the Hugo is more refined and transparent compared to the WA7 when listening with the T1s.

Hope that helps somewhat JamieMcC. Sorry for the lack of comparisons with other amps. Good Luck mate!

They sound fantastic with the Hugo which drives them with ease!

Hello.. I just purchased a T1 from buydig.com.  The T1 looks legit but its cable wire does not have the Peacock MK II markings on it (as I've seen the photos on this thread).  Can anyone here tell just by the lack of the markings if my T1 is not a real Beyerdynamic T1 (i.e., a counterfeit model).

I would appreciate any response as I am becoming more suspicious of my T1.

Thanks.

J

My stock cables did not have any markings on them. What makes you suspicious about them besides that?

In general, I haven't heard much about fake T1s either.

Just got mine in the other day and I love how they've been sounding so far, on top of being extremely comfortable. Next step is to get a proper amp for them, though they still sound great coming out of the Xonar STX. From what I've been reading the WA2 pairs really well with the T1's, is the WA22 that much better?

Thanks for the reply.  Other than the lack of Peacock MK II markings on the wires, other physical details look fine when compared to the stock photos.  Of course, T1 being the best sounding headphone I own/owned, I can't complain about the way it translates my music.

I guess I was questing (and suspicious of) why my T1 didn't have the cable markings whereas some other ones do have them.  My serial number being 19K+ could it be that Beyerdynamic stop using MKII wires??

Once again, thanks for the reply earthpeople and all the good info on this thread.

I'm a newbie to T1 but not to the amp matching.  Below website can help you calculate the amp power being supplied to T1:

http://www.ringbell.co.uk/info/dbm.htm

http://www.apexhifi.com/specs.html

The formula I used for T1:

Headphone sensitivity (dBSPL @ 1 milliwat) 102

Headphone impedance (ohms) 600

Desired loudness (dBSPL) 110

Min AMP specs:

Required power (milliwatts) 6

Required voltage (volts RMS) 1.95

Required current (millamps RMS) 3.2

Mine have no markings either and I bought them from Germany! They sound great though, so I'm assuming they're genuine :-)

Make sure you test extensively and only buy some really special amp, because STX already drivers T1 very well (despite what a lot of people, mostly based on prejudices, will tell you).  Get some LM49990 op-amps (smoother, bigger, more natural sound) and try it again.  I have a Musical Fidelity M1HPAP which sounds really good in the 1000 dollar segment and a lot of people who tried it really like it, as you can see from reviews on the internet too, but really, it's only marginally better than the STX, especially with high impedance headphones. Hell, even the Asus Xonar D1 (around 70 dollars) makes the T1's sound pretty much identical (minus the really high volume) when volume matched to the Musical Fidelity M1DAC and M1HPAP.  What I'm trying to say, don't expect the T1's to magically blossom and sound like completely new headphones. They already sound 90% as good as they ever will out of any setup on earth (again, despite what a lot of people who like to greatly exaggerate will tell you).
