The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread - Page 48

Well that's a relief. Though that still doesn't explain why quite a few keep referring to sound qualities I absolutely cannot hear in my own T1. With mine, the mids are not at all metallic, they're the most natural I've heard alongside the HE500 and LCD2. The bass is maybe 1-2% larger in quantity than the HD800. The treble is a little hot. I suppose it could be different amps and preferences, though there is still those two totally different T1 FR graphs on Innerfidelity that's quite interesting.

It all depends on ones ears as well. My T1, to me, sounds very HD600 like with full mids and a smoother treble response than the DT880. The bass is man oh man just perfect! To me the treble is prominent but not hot or strident in any form.

Anyways happy listening all!

BTW I might be able to score some T1 cups from the guys at Beyerdynamic Germany as well as some of the older strain reliefs. I will update you guys when I get word back from them.

I hate to throw a monkey wrench into the works again, but my new T1 arrived today (S/N 46xx), and they definitely sound different from my last pair (19xx).  I'm running them off the same amp, same DAC, same PC, same cables, etc. -- but the 46xx most definitely has more bass and less treble than the 19xx.

And it's not just poor audio memory -- I compared my 19xx T1 directly to my HD800, and the HD800 had slightly more bass and was less bright.  The 46xx T1 has a good amount more bass than that same pair of HD800s, and a bit less treble too.

I completely believe Beyer when they say that there aren't two different versions of the T1, and that their manufacturing variability is probably pretty small.  At this point, the only way I can explain the differences I'm hearing (because they most definitely are there) is that they must be due either to break-in or pad wear.

Hmmm...interesting findings Shane. My T1s are serial number 11XX and from Day 1, they've had more bass and less treble than my HD800s. My T1's where always what I consider slightly warm of neutral (or bang on neutral), while the HD800s were slightly brighter than neutral.

*Sigh* it never ends. I hope my next T1 is as you describe, as the 35XX was basically very slightly less bright and very slightly more bass heavy than the HD800 (I'm talking 1-2%). Not to say I didn't absolutely adore it (you bet I did) but I would definitely love one of these supposed pairs without hot treble and significantly more bass impact than the HD800.

I owned the T1 #1318 and it sounded like a high-resolution K701 with better bass extension. I compared them to the Q701 some time ago and the AKG sounded slightly more massive and sweeter. The T1 had neutral flavor and much higher resolution of the highs. If the new T1 sound like you describe them, then I hardly see the point to buy them instead of the AKG Q701 because of tonal balance changes towards these AKG's, higher price and not so universal impedance.

Then I am surprised on that T1's perfect bass.since T1 isn't famous at all in bass department.
