They're both great headphones with different tastes.

And if you had to choose just one, what would that be?

I won't answer it here in this thread.  ;)

LOL, like I didn't know that.

Shouldn't this thread be in the summit fi forums or isn't the T1 considered summit fi?

Good question, and I believe it used to be there, may be still is just abandoned.

If you had to choose 1 of them for use with every genre, the T1 wins.

I'm amping with Soloist and Crack so I don't think poor amping is issue. Also using M1DAC so no bottleneck here, just straight up prefer the T1.

Never heard the Crack but the Soloist is a poor match for the HD800's. Too passive and uninvolving with the HD800's.

Both cans love tubes....biggrin.gif

I had hd800s and sold them..now have t1s, while I did like the larger soundstage for some things, they just seemed dull to me, and fatigue would set in right away. I just couldn't get into the sound, from day 1 I didn't like them. The T1s I can listen to all night. . Lots of air and dimension

The true is the T1s are more all-rounder headphones than the HD800, IMO.

While I can certainly understand you didn't care for the combo, to say it's a poor match is a bit overstated IMO. I believe the Soloist to be a quite transparent amp. As such, you're hearing more of what you don't like about the HD800's inherently and less what an amp can do to "correct" them.

Yeah Tyll showed that the Soloist was pretty transparent. Regardles, while the HD800 sounds fine on the Crack, I just don't feel its my cup of tea. The T1 isn't better, I just prefer it, they are about equal in tonal quality

My Master-6 is an even more transparent amp, yet I am hearing nothing that I don't like about the HD800's. I hear none of the issues DutchGFX has with the Soloist.

Compared to the Soloist the M6 with the HD800's give a much more dynamic fuller sound. Bass is deeper, fuller and tighter with greater punch.

The Soloist sounded anemic and boring in comparison which matches DutchGFX's comments.

I think it's not a transparency but slightly aggressive nature of Burson, works wonder for laid back phones like Audeze and HD650 but could be a bit too much for HD800 and to lesser degree T1. Paired DAC matters too, I had Conductor and that was perhaps the harshest and most aggressive combo I've had, revealing but harsh.
