On the other hand HD800 is also very tempting, but i`m worried my HDP won`t do it justice.

I recently got both.   The HD800 is the better headphone.

If they were both going for the same price I would chose the HD800.  If i could get the T1 for $950 and the HD800 for $1350, I would chose the T1.

I could live with either on as my only headphone.   The T1 slightly edges the HD800 for metal and rock.

Get the headphone now and worry about the amp\source later.

I can get the T1 for about $1000 and the HD800 for about $1300. One thing that i`m not sure is, i have been reading some mixed opinions about the soundstage of T1 Some say it`s only slightly better than DT880, others say it`s a big improvement over 880. I can`t find a place to demo the T1 so this is something that`s bothering me. I like a big well defined soundstage and read that the HD800 has a really great soundstage.

Can any T1 owner please create a video to show how much sound do these "semi-open" cans leak exactly at different volume levels? I found a lot of videos where people hold them in hands and talk a lot or take them apart, but no one actually plugged them in.

I don't have an option to listen to them, I'll have to buy blind; however, the leakage is a deal breaker as I want to use them in the office.

I just switched back and forth between the two...just for you.  :D

Yeah, the HD800's is wider...but it's not like the T1 has a crappy soundstage.    If I use a 1-10 scale, the Sennheiser scores a 10 and the T1 gets a 9 or 9.5.   The K702 gets an 8.5 or a 9.

One more thing - when I switch from the HD800 to the T1, I don't feel that I'm going from something great to something inferior.   Both are incredible...the HD800 is just a little more incredible.  Both are comfortable...but the HD800 is more comfortable.    Both sound great...but the HD800 is just a little better.   The T1s do have a little more bass.

Having heard both, I would go for the T1 at $1000, however, I would not blame anyone for paying those extra $300 for the Sennheiser.  My decision was easy since I got my HD800 for $889 during that crazy Amazon deal.

I cant do the video now because im not at my house but i could when i get back. The T1's are marketed as semi-open but they still leak a lot. Its nearly the same as HD800.

IMHO, if you like mids and your music are rocks, than the T1 is the right choice for you. If you like to hear classic and orchestra than the HD800 is the right choice for you.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that the T1 is merely $869.95 shipped on Amazon at present.  The vendor is Sonic Sense.  What a blowout deal!

I don't have the HD880 but I can comment on both the T1 and DT880 because I own both of those Beyers.

The extra $ is worth it.
The DT880 is very clear sounding but you never notice the sonic veil until you compare it against the T1.

The T1 seems to convey music slightly more effortlessly or naturally.

Both are very neutral sounding.

Both are very comfortable and can be worn for hours without any physical head/ear fatigue.
The DT880 is slightly more comfortable.

In terms of soundstage, don't worry about it if you are using tube amps.
You can tailor all aspects of the sound by rolling tubes.
On my Decware CSP3, I got a very wide soundstage by using Siemens E288CC tubes.
The Lorenz Stuttgart PCC88 can also produce a wide soundstage.
This also applies to the so called "brightness" of the T1.
It is not bright but simply reflects the natural brightness of the digital DAC .
A warm sounding tube will make it lush sounding.

No problem.

And don't worry about your choice because you will be buying a great pair of headphones either way.

I'm gonna make you a video now and upload it to youtube: it's dark and you won't see anything lol, but you will hear it.

Edit:

Here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf8iJiJSM3I

At the beginning and end of the video the volume is at 11 o'clock, which is regular listening level for me, maybe a bit too loud than it should be, and in the middle of video when its at 1 o'clock it's too loud to listen to for more than a few seconds, and even then its uncomfortable. Amp is Musical Fidelity M1HPAp, headphone leaks almost like an open back.

My toxic silver widow cables with  hd800 connectors should be arriving soon.  I have not used my T1 for probably 2 months and I can't wait to use this cable with my modded T1.
