The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread - Page 398

Just replaced my T1 earpads with new ones. They were still in a great shape but became quite soft and squishy and I was catching myself recently on the idea that they do not sound that detailed, muffled in fact.

Wow, the soundstage grew quite noticeably and I can definitely hear more details than before.

The newer pads foam feels firm, the old is soft and easily compressed.

I have experienced similar transformation with HD650. So for you with extra mileage on your T1, consider new pads even if the old ones look fine, you'll be surprised by how much better T1 sound.

All tubes I've bought are NOS off of EBay and were really cheap compared to stores online. Five Philips JAN 6DJ8 from 1978 & four Philips JAN 6DJ8 from 1972 all still in original boxes, a NOS Tung Sol 5AU4 rectifier in original box, and a NOS RCA 5R4GY rectifier.

I've seen the Brimar 5R4GYS online but only used and very pricey. I've read about the Philips 5R4GYS and see it sold by Upscale Audio and thinking about purchasing one.

Dubstep Girl was a great influence on going T1, she owns quite a few of the top headphones yet still favors the T1. smily_headphones1.gif

Reading Skylab's review of the original Decware CSP2 and his comments on the great sound using the T1 & CSP2 were a great influence.

Oh boy, Cobalt...you are in for a treat!!!

Im listening to Bob Marleys survival album - T1/WA2. The sound is incredible. What a headphone. I even prefer T1/WA2 to my friends Keff R500 speakers.

Figaro69, which Decware interconnects do you have? Any issues with the CSP+2 inputs being straight up? I only have a pair of Blue Jeans Cable interconnects and may be buying a new, longer set of interconnects.

I have the ones the themselves make and recommend for the CSP2.  It was easier for me just to order the cables from them and I am not dissatisfied.  Although I'm not thrilled about the inputs being straight up, I've learned to live with them.  Make sure the cables are long enough to connect to your source.  A nice thing about the Decware cables is how flexible they are (i.e., definitely not as hard and inflexible as the DiMarzio cables I use with my other gear).

Hi guyz!

Sorry for me being lazy, but I'm not really interested to read through 400 pages. Tried the search without any results, though.

So my question would be this:

At the moment I'm using my T1 with Xonar Essence Pci-x - Audiotailor Jade / with upgareded tubes / - T1.

What kind of difference could I hear, if I would change the Jade with the WA2? Would it worth the price of $1800 with the tube upgrades?

Am I about to experience the difference between heaven and hell? Or there will be only some minor difference?

My trigger finger is happy, but it has to wait till I get some responses and till payday :--))

Thy guyz for the answers!

At the moment I'm really happy with the current setup. The Jade is capable to drive the T1 easily to ear bleeding levels. To have the knob around 11 o'clock makes my ears bleed. So I'm expecting more like a quality boost in the sound, more thicker sound, wider sound stage, better positioning etc...

Oh yeah, the T1 beats to a pulp my DT880/600 with the Jade already.

I have 2 days to decide, cause my finger is itchy, and wanna buy something :--))

Thx again!

Isnt the jade a more entry lvl amp? You should hear a nice improvement with the wa2 especially if you upgrade tubes, its one of the best amps you can get for the t1
post #5963 of 8225

Yes it is. But with the $400 price tag on it, I would call it a bit more than entry level, but heyyy, it's relative :--))

But my problem is, I just can't imagine what kind of improvement can I expect.

I've read the articles, ans posts on the subject of DT880-600 compared to the T1.
I knew, what to expect.

But not now.

$1800 is a lot of money. Even though I can buy the upgrades only in February. But that still leaves me with $1200 to pay. Which is still a lot!

Thx for the feedback!

400 dollars is nothing, entry level at best. Anything below 800 is entry i think.

the Wa2 is 1190. you could get - rft ez80's - 7308 - 5998. It would cost less than 1600 dollars and the amp would sound great.

There is very expensive amps costing thousands of $  , it don't mean that they sound much better than some sub 800 $ amps , peraphs they sound more to your liking . But $ is not a garantee about "quality" , don't be fooled by how much you pay .

Thx, I'll look into it!

I guess, I should rephrase my question.

What kind of sound quality difference should I expect upgrading a from decent entry level tube amp / $400 / to the WA2 for my T1?

I can easily deafen myself with the Jade too, so I'm not after to be able to listen the T1 loud.

Thy!

Refinement of detail, accuracy of tonal quality and more accurate presentation of the soundstage including a more coherent center image are all things you might expect with the WA-2. The percentage of improvement is all relative to the rest of your chain. The WA-2 scales well. The reality is that improvements are not giant leaps at this level.

After waiting allllll day, I finally got my T1s. A quick comparison against my T90s gives me the impression that they are much less tiring to listen to, with a calmer top end. Slightly less bass too, but still plenty when the song calls for it. Physically, they feel heavier, but build quality is a bit better too. Gonna be giving them a good test later on!

I'm running them off my HA-160 right now, will be looking into trying an OTL amp with them in the near future as well. Doubtful that I'll be going straight to WA2-level though, haha.
