What mod did you get done to the T1? Is that a balanced-out of the DX50? Very nice by the way :)

Balanced cable which I connect straight to my M8. I used a dual XLR to stereo jack so I can connect it to DX50

Nice setup HW. How is the T1 on the M8 compared to the DX50?

Also, can the DX50 go usb-to-m8? The answer is probably out there, but since you're here, and you have them....biggrin.gif

I have gone through a number of my older CD's checking them out with the T1's, and a few are like hearing them for the first time.  I like Rock so sometimes a mixed bag when it comes to mastering.

That being said, I put the first Garbage album on last night and was blown away.  It was like fireworks going off around my ears, and I mean that in a good way. Complex and shimmering, this is the best CD I've heard with the T1's.

M8 is stll better. Although T1 sounds good on DX50 it loses a lot on soundstage and instrument separation. This is expected since the DX50 does not have enough juice compared to M8. That is the most obvious difference. I'm still burning in my DX50 so I don't want to compare SQs yet, I just wish M8 also has a coax digital input so I can use it as DAC/amp on DX50.

But with a neutral and powerful amp, the DX50/amp combo can easily match if not surpass the iDevice/M8 combo in my opinion.

Late to the party compared to some on this but I've been buying/downloading game soundtracks recently especially for atmospheric stuff, Skyrim Atmospheres on the T1's is heavenly. I could listen to this everyday before bed if I could.

I joined head-fi back in 2006. At the time I had not experienced decent headphones. Read a bit and purchased some pieces to put together a computer listening set up. I bought a used Firestone Audio Cute Beyond Headphone Amp, an Entech Number Cruncher 203.2 new old stock off of Ebay, Sennheiser HD-595, a used M-Audio Transit USB, and Blue Jeans interconnects & optical cable. My only issue with the set up was the Entech Number Cruncher was really loud. I had to go out and find some attenuators which I put on either side of the Blue Jeans interconnects to bring the audio down some. This set up served me well for years, good sounding music.

This year I saw a sale on a set of headphones on another web page, made the purchase. The new headphones are Audio Technica ATH-AD900X. Wow, they sounded so much better with music than my older Sennheiser HD-595. My only issue with the ATH-AD900X were the pads, not as comfortable as the HD 595s but the music sounded fun again! The ATH-AD900X sound great with music but I found the HD-595 sound better with games. I tried out the ATH-AD900X with Skyrim on my computer and then switched out to the HD-595, I could hear more things in the game with the 595.

The ATH-AD900X showed me there are better sounding headphones even with my older rig. I came back to head-fi and started reading what was current out there. I decided to go with a higher end set of headphones. I found David Mahler's post, Battle Of The Flagships, and used that as a reference to learn what was out there. I decided on either the Audeze LCD-2, HiFiMan HE-500, or the Beyerdynamic T1 and I read through appreciation threads for each. I marked off the HE-500 for build quality. I was on the fence between the LCD-2 and T1 and then the LCD-X came out, I was almost swayed by the aluminum cup housing but saw the price. I watch a web page which has large group sales, I think I'm not supposed to name it but not sure. I received an email from them Friday night with the Beyerdynamic T1. Checked em out, saw the price and that decided it for me. I purchased a set and I'm now waiting on my new headphones.

I currently have a Meier Audio Stagedac I'm purchasing from the buy/sell forum here and look forward to hearing with my current set up.

As far as a new amp I'm undecided but I'm leaning towards a Meier Audio Corda Classic. I'd like to stay solid state and I don't want to get in to purchasing tubes to find a good sound.

Would my M-Audio Transit be sufficient with the new set up I'm building?

Can't wait to hear my gear when I get it all together eventually.

The Violectric V200 is also fantastic with the T1.  If you can find one for a price that works for you, go for it.

T1 + Meier crossfeed circuit = chocolate and peanut butter, except better and less messy.

Great recommendation, Saren. I'm rockin' the T1s and Skyrim right now - very impressive sound.

I did. I bought the Gungnir for the end-game solution, I have enough of buying stuff for my listening need.

Then I realize that Mjolnir is not single ended. So I have to beg & cajole my supplier to swap for

Bifrost/Asgard2. And I am perfectly happy with my Asgard 2. Its Class A operation makes it

a formidable little preamp if you have a lethargic mass-market receiver like mid-range Denon or Pioneer.

And my cheap 6 year old speakers suddenly open up, I swear to God. I am more excited with the Asgard 2

as a preamp boost to my speaker system than as a headphone amp...

Yes i am expecting to receive a glenn otl amp sometime this week to audition. Ill have it for a few weeks where i will listen to it, tube roll, and decide if i will buy one or not.

And yes t1/wa2 is my favorite for just general listening

He builds custom tube amps - his amps are supposedly as good if not better than the WA2 and they are nearly half the price. Dubstep girl has ordered one and will have it in a few days so if you check that thread regularly you can read her impressions. Her favorite headphone is the T1 and she had the T1/WA2 like me so if she gives it the thumbs up then maybe that would be an avenue could explore.

I am considering a custom amp from Glenn also. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll definitely keep an eye out. Everyone keeps raving on about how well the WA2 pairs with the T1, but if the Glenn can somehow manage the same level of synergy, it seems like the way to go. :)

EDIT: On an unrelated topic, has anyone had any success with leather pads on the T1? I've read that the JMoney DT pads sound horrible and the Beyer's equivalent leather pads even worse. However, I can't find any info on the EDT 5p (pads for T5p) being used on the T1. I love the velour but I got tired of washing them and waiting for them to dry before I can use my DT880's, so that's why I'm running the JMoney pads on them now. If no leather pads will sound good with the T1, I guess my only hope is to buy another set of velours so I can alternate between cleaning cycles.
