Would you recommend it as a permannet amp for phones like T1s? I am looking for something cheapish that will not make me think I wasted the money buying T1s and then buying an amp that does not do them justice.

I have read some reviews and it seems to be a nice amp.

If I were to choose between Woo WA3 and 337 which one would be better?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just read Skylab's review and learned that it is worth the money and is a much better choice than Woo WA3.

Thread Starter

I own the WA3+ and have heard the 337. I personally did not like the synergy with the T1 on 337 but my WA3+ sounded much better with them. Also from what I could hear, the WA3+ powers them better as well 9at least when you use tube with higher voltage output). Also on the WA3+ you get more power when you use the 7236 tubes and they also have a higher amplification factor.

What other OTL amps would you recommend up to $500-$600 that would be a good match for T1s and not be something just 'for the time being'? LD IV SE?

WA3 is a better choice than the LDMKIII IMO.

if you had to put a percentage on how much better the T1 is over the  DT880/600 in your system, what would that number be?  my DT880/600 should be here at the end of next week. pretty excited!

The T1 is more detailed has more inner detail and slight more transparency. Is the T1 4x better. I would say you get 90-95 percent of the t1 with the 880 600 ohms . if I wanted to own the flagships again it would be a T1 but if your budget is an 880 you will not be disappointed.

It is certainly not 4x better as Frank mentioned...we are in the diminished returns here. I would say the DT880 gives you 80-85%ish of the T1's sound quality. But the DT880s are still more comfortable than the T1s.

I know your asking Peter but I owned them and paid 900 open box. Are they worth 1295.00 the answer is no way would I buy them for that. Look used and they can be found for sometimes less than 800.00 as they were on Amazon couple days ago.

I can't wait to get the T1's, but I've also been quite pleased with the DT880's. A very civilized yet still exciting sound. If I wasn't bit by the upgrade bug I'd be still happily groovin' with them...

I was lucky and able to get them when they were first released. They had a limited introductory price of $999...I was able to snag a new pair for slightly less than that. The F/S forum is a good place as well.

Let's not forget that the choice of DAC is going to make a big difference with the T-1s.  I was listening to my WA3 last night through my  Pico dac and in no way was it as good as when I use my Stello or NorthStar.

The T-1 is exponentially better.  As MH said, all you have to do is put them on to hear the difference.

That said, I'm still not selling my 880s, but I'm sure using them less.

The T-1s are not the 880s.  Much better bass, better, clearer, more extended treble, the new spacial characteristics the angled drivers provide and the new headband makes up for a lot of the discomfort the early models had.... but they are heavier.  How much better?  On second though, "Better" is not a good word, the T-1s are a different animal.

Always be careful with used equipment.  Especially when it has had more than one owner.

Know your seller, is a good guideline to follow.

From what you guys are saying:

WA3 over DV337 for T1s.

DV337 over LDMKIII

means WA3 over LKMKIII

Does it mean WA3 would be best choice in this price range?

As for DAC, I already have a Burson HA-160D and was thinking of using it as a DAC if I decide to buy another amp. Not saying I HAVE decided to buy another amp as it will depend on how much I like T1s with HA-160D, but am trying to do some research while I am waiting for the cans.

Well I   did it. I ordered an new T1. I couldn't resist I missed it too much and after spending some time this week and last week with the 880 600 ohms and today with the Hd600 I am now back where I started my journey to the T1 and D7000. Listening to my CSP-2 for the last week convinced me that Beyer is my signature for open cans.
