New question since im talking about a grand instead of 50 bucks :/ Is it worth the extra grand?

If you're not afraid to attempt DIY, the Bottlehead Crack is similar to the WA2 and a great beginner project that will close that price gap by quite a bit. Is it worth the extra grand? That's subjective, but I would say no it isn't.

Definitely a great option (Bottlehead Crack) and easy to build with a little patience and care

Im assuming one needs at least rudimentary electronics skills to assemble one,to do all the hot mods etc....?

I went down to the flagship shop of Munkong Gadgets today to test out the T1-WA2 combo, unfortunately they were out of T1's,but I did test it out on the HD800,LCD2 and the Sennhesiuer 600 and im sorry to say that the volume out of all 3 were seriously lacking IMO...they even had the Abyss(all 6500.00 of it) sitting there, but if it couldnt get enough volume out the 600s I didnt bother with the Abyss

not enough volume? i have the 650's and there is a pile of volume. also the t1's are really loud on wa2. I don't understand how the volume was low - does not make sense.

Dunno man,had the volume to 100% on all phones and the volume just wasnt there, perhaps the guy at the shop didnt have it setup correctly

I had earlier tested the ALO Continental on the 600s and it had ALOT more volume than the WA2....

any ideas as to what the deal with is?

There is something fishy going on there for sure. when i plug in the 650's i cant turn it passed 1 o'clock or it will blow the ears off me! The same with the Beyer cans. I can understand the lcd2's not having enough volume because they are mismatched in impedance with WA2. You should never pair WA2 with planar magnetic headphones but the amp was made for cans like hd800/hd600/t1

That being the case something obviously wasnt right cuz the volume on all 3 phones I tried were all about the same,I was VERY underwhelmed

Nothing was said about the source being used. If it was a PC or something like that they may have had some kind of digital volume engaged at a lower level. If this was the case, it not only would reduce the digital output levels fed to the DAC and amp, it would also reduce the overall quality of the sound as well.

I have an iMac and if you accidentally touch one of the normal volume keys, it can set the level down without being noticed. It's happened to me on a couple of occasions. The clue is when I have to turn up the level on my amp more than necessary.

Just want to say for anyone interested in T1/WA2 combo, the right tubes are VERY VERY VERY important.

I replaced the stock Electro harmonix 6CA4 with a pair of D-getter British made Mullard ez80, and it made a huge difference.

The EH tubes were seriously crap, how could I stick with it for such a long time (maybe it was because of synergy with other tubes).

I now have amperex 6922 (white label USA), Tungsol 5998 and Mullard ez80, and it sounds amazing.

This may well be your issue. Were they using a special dock for the iPod in order to provide line level outputs (unlikely)? Or were they just using the headphone jack output on the iPod?

If it was the latter, was the volume on the iPod up all the way? It is likely that the input level to the WA2 was not at a normal line level.

By the way, I suspect that the built in DAC of the iPod is not going to give you a very good showing of what any of those headphones (i.e., T1, HD800, LCD2) can do. The iPod DACs are pretty mediocre.

You'll never power those kind of headphones through an IPOD!

Haven't you ever heard of a headphone amplifier?
