On my setup...i would say T1 presents the sound deeeper n crystalclearer
than the other cans i hav.

Compared to my AT W3000ANVs I find the T1s to be a little bright.  The detail is unequaled but the high end is a little exaggerated and the low end is a little light.  This is the complete opposite of the LCD-3s.

I have been so tempted to get a pair of T1.

the amp/dac I am having now is musical fidelity V series. they sound decent with my DT880 600ohm.

I am wondering if they bring out the potential of T1

Get an OTL tube amp like the Bottlehead Crack+Speedball upgrade and they will.

I found the T1s worked best with a good quality OTL. Amp (like the WA2).

The TH900s have more bass and the T1's mids are a bit more prominent. Imaging wise (amazingly enough) is a tough call. And that is a testament to the Fostex cans as I've never heard closed cans image so well.

They would however be very complimentary headphones. biggrin.gif

Thanks for that. How about the highs - how do they compare. Which is more brighter/sharper and has more high end energy?

I've had my T1's for going on a month now and am really happy with them.  They have exceeded my expectations...and my expectations were very high.  I'm running them through a Schiit Bifrost/Schiit Lyr with some high-end Mullard tubes.  The presence, balance, detail-retrieval and instrument timbre are all excellent...and I'm only about 100-125 hours into the burn-in.

But in trying to get the T1's to their highest level I am considering upgrading the cable.

Macedonian Hero had mentioned a few pages back that Beyerdynamic USA would still honor their warranty with a cable upgrade from Moon Audio.  I checked with both Drew Baird at Moon and Beyerdynamic and verified this.

It seems the stock T1 cable is a relatively high quality one compared to other stocks.  I wouldn't expect a night and day difference in re-cabling but I would like to hear from anyone here who has re-cabled with a Moon Audio Black Dragon v2....or any of their other cables.  I've heard from one other head-fi'er and he was very satisfied with what the Black Dragon added to his sound, though it was relatively subtle.  Just trying to decide whether the reward is worth the investment.  Please post your impressions or feel free to PM me.

an amp/dac upgrade would be more noticeable than the cable, even a tube upgrade
post #4869 of 8129

Agreed on the dac/amp...the tubes I'm running are among the highest end available.

But I'm looking at a couple hundred dollar potential investment in the cable upgrade...as

compared to much more with the dac/amp upgrade.  And that's not in the cards right now...lol,

still recovering from the T1 purchase.

I would put the cable upgrade money in a coffee can for another day.

I have a black Dragon XLR cable on mine and it did bring a subtle improvement, but as DG said, a DAC/Amp upgrade will bring a much more noticeable difference. Save the cash for something else IMO.

Depends on the amp with the T1s. On a WA2, they are very smooth (and a touch smoother than the TH-900s). But on say a LF, its the other way around.

I'm dying to hear them on the WA2 @_@

Also think about Meier Corda Classic. Does not colour the sound like WA2.

Wow, that's surprising to hear. Actually, on my graham slee diamond the T1's are pretty smooth up top too - smoother than the d7k and ultrasone sig pro.

I guess the final question if I may ask is which of these too, the T1 and the TH900 do you think sounds better....

...I know that they are on different lines of headphones and therefore it's hard to compare them, but if in 100 occasions you had to pick one to listen to on a random day, which would you choose >50 times?!

About the different lines of headphones - I feel it goes like this. On one line you can have the k701, T1, HD800, HD700 where people wouldn't really find these headphones complementary. Rather they seem to compete with each other, and for me and my ears, having heard in depth the other three, I think the T1 sounds the best (beats the HD800 by far in terms of its natural sound). The d7k, JVC dx1000 and th900 (?) could be placed on another line I guess.

Thanks a lot for your answers - it's definitely helping me out and i'm sure others too.
