I prefer the LCD-2s overall out of the 4 mentioned headphones. And in the end, I do prefer (by a small margin) the HE-6s (on my Lyr amp) over my T1s.

If comfort is an issue, I much prefer the T1's over the LCD-2's. Sound wise, the LCD-2's are quite remarkable, they have that wow factor going on, especially with the lower spectrum. The HE6's have the same wow factor but at the other end of the musical spectrum and are more comfortable to wear than the LCD-2's. The T-1's balance both nicely with a nice full range.  Right now I can't see giving up any of these three.

Thanks for the replies.  I can see myself having a hard time making a decision between them.  I've got until November to make up my mind but it will not be easy.  I was all set on the T1's until I started reading about the LCD-2 and the HE-6.  I know that any of the three of these will be a big step up from the DT880's that I have right now.

I just wanted to mention the Aphrodite Zeus Hex22 balance cables for my T1s worked wonderfully. All the T1 resolution and control is there with a fuller, more relaxed, warmer upper midrange

and sweeter highs. A lot of bright discs are much more listenable, and in fact these discs are now only usable with my balanced T1s and sound great, but are annoyingly tipped up and piercing

with all my other phones (Senns, Grados, Ultrasones, etc.). But the balanced T1s are not blunted, just more natural. I actually also have a pair of stock T1s  and the improvement is clear.

Can someone please measure the outside length from the underside of the cup over the headband to the underside of the other cup at maximum extension?

Reason i ask is because i want these but i can't audition them first and since i have a huge head i'm not even sure they will fit o2smile.gif

It's about 6 + 5/8s inches from side to side and about 7.25 inches from the headband to the bottoms fully extended. I think you will be fine. I have big head too

and they have lots of room for me less than half extended, and they don't clamp and are soft and that subjectively makes them feel like there is lots of room.

The feel much more roomy than Senn 650s. Hope this helps.

Thanks allot for doing the measurements!

I agree that it should be no problem then, i have the HD600 which i assume is similiar to the HD650 and those fit fine.

Now all that's left is waiting for the salary haha

Are you sure the difference you're hearing isn't just the 6dB volume difference between balanced and single ended?  According to kwkarth, all things being equal, balanced and single ended sound the same.

I think balancing changes the sound in a few ways. The extra power can help with smoothing treble and filling in the bass. Also balanced has a lower noise floor which is welcomed for headphone usage as you can hear static and hum much more easily with headphones.

I like my balanced gear because it provides double the power of single ended mode on my amp. The sound can sound cleaner with the reduced noise which I really like.

I think the nature of the cable has a lot to do with it.

I just pulled the trigger on a T1.  Looking forward to hearing how they perform relative to my K701 and Pro900.  I am also interested in how the detail stacks up against my ED8.

I love my T1 with Post-rock!

Maybe it's a stretch, but I think all serious head-fi'ers should have the T1s in their stable. Even if they don't quite match with a particular setup, they respond to

upstream changes well and I think you can get them sounding fine a lot easier than other phones with more serious unique sound characters.

And when you get them right, they are awesome in tonality, staging, and relaxed involvement. And they are seriously comfortable and light.

And they return the favor if you feed them with as good amplification, sources, and recordings as you can afford.

To me, with high end tube amps or equivalent solid state and high end digital (especially SACD),  they sing as well and are as satisfying as R10s.

And where R10s can reveal too much high frequency sound on badly mixed CDs, the T1s can finesse things nicely.

I really can't say that about any other phone, and I've been through lots of them.

This is all from current and long-term personal experience.
