Looking forward your experience compared to T1 ;)

The part about amping is not exactly right.

I have had a Burson HA-160D, WA2 and Meier Classic and they all sounded good. Maybe different, but never ear-piercing or anywhere near that.

just wondering why you got rid of your wa2? what did you think of it with your t1s compared with the meier? i was thinking of getting the t1s from meier audio. did they put there prices up recently i could of sworn they had the t1s for 750 euro now they are 949.

WA2 made T1s less transparent in my opinion. Meier is more transparent and does not add warmth. I was also moving into a smaller place and wanted to save some space.

i can see that. my WA6-SE/T1 is more transparent as well, but not as good tone and its brighter. with the right tubes, i can make it less bright, but its still thin sounding compared to the WA2.

WA2 absolutely requires premium NOS tubes to sound its very best. tung sol 5998s and some nice driver tubes. also woo amps aren't the most transparent amps out there, but they sure are fun! biggrin.gif

I am more into transparent than fun, so I got the Classic and I love the combo. Perfect for my needs. I have sold everything else but the SoundMAGIC HP!00s that I use while away from home.

Might buy something closed, but not sure what at the moment.

If you find something good, I'd be interested to hear about it toosmile.gif I've been considering closed phones for a while too. The Denon 7000s sound interesting but they're quite hard to come by as they're already discontinued and replaced by some inferior (so I hear) model.

the WA7 seems to pair better with LCD-2, seems like a very popular amp for them now, but it does well with HD 800 as well.

the WA7 is an all-in-one, but the WA2 would pair better with T1.  for 1500$, i would go with WA2 ($1190), a Schiit Modi or ODac (entry level, but should be decent enough 100-150$), and Tung Sol 5998 power tubes ($200, but highly recommended)

Thanks for the information!  This is very helpful, but I think I will blow my budget going with that route.  Tube rolling sounds like a lot of fun, but it's a too expensive of a sport for me now.  I am still leaning toward the WA7 for now.

Would've been my route too if I didn't get a used WA2 with the tung sol 5998s etc for the same price xD

Going to be sticking to my HD598s for now until I receive my dac, I'm abit worried about the lifespan of tubes etc since I'm the 2nd owner.

Yeah, I heard that they depend if you are lucky or not.  But I would've done the same if I were you.  I did some research and the Tung sol 5998s is pretty expensive now.  Here and I thought that I should not be at my end game at my beginning, so I am probably getting the WA7.  The only problem is the wait.  I heard the back order status is ridiculous.

you could always use the stock tubes with the WA2. the ts 5998 are better, but theres also alot of cheaper options to tube roll with for when you decide to upgrade.

I thought about it too, but then I thought I that I should start off with something well within my budget first.  And I could upgrade to WA2 when the time comes.  I heard that the DAC from WA7 is one of the tops for its price.  So I can use it in conjunction with the WA2 down the line.  At least now I can enjoy decent music with the form factor that my SO approves.  I know its sad.

btw, I am 25 hrs in the T1, and its already sounding better.  the treble doesn't hurt my ears as much and I am listening to music in higher volume than before.  Is this normal?

The WA7 is a great pairing with the T1 and well worth the wait, IMO.  The DAC is just average (not planning on using it to replace my existing DAC)...but the amp itself is excellent.
