Like I said before, the T1 is one of the most neutral and transparent headphones in the world. It is reflecting your gear upstream. It's most likely the tube amp giving the "edge", which is usually associated with the proper term "sibilance" It may also just be the recording. Most electronic music is not recorded to sound professionally done. Actually most music nowadays isn't at all.

I guess that's why I like to switch off, too many sources weren't given the attention they deserve in mastering. I don't listen to SACD because my player doesn't support it so I'm not worried about losing detail; especially with ambient, I listen at an extremely low volume so that I won't have my reverie broken.

You can also try positioning the T1 differently on your head. That may help offset the acoustic resonances in your ear canal that you're sensitive to. Though, it may mess up soundstaging. Give it a shot and play around.

I also think the 880's are darker than the T1's. I've been doing comparisons all week. I wonder if people's experiences have more to do with driver variances or amping?

This is why if your going to have a range of different headphones - you might need to looking at getting a second headphone amp.

I like my T1's on my B22.  However, I like my LCDs on my GS-1.  Different synergy for both.

I recently read somewhere that Beyerdynamic headphones in general, including the T1, have 'fake' detail. I imagine as a result of the slight treble peak.

I wanted to get the thoughts of T1 owners on this.

IMO there is no such thing as 'fake' detail. Headphones don't make up detail just to impress.

Some headphones have great clarity and transparency which helps small details come through a lot clearer than many other headphones. Some might emphasize a certain frequency range which can sound as though they are pushing detail in that range more but its still detail that on the recording and I for one want to hear it.

Everything you hear is detail. The Denon's and the LCD2's may emphasize bass detail while HD800's, T1's, K701's may do the same at the high frequencies.

I have never heard a headphone that forces detail on you.

I don't think that's true. T1's have an amazing ability to make instruments sound real as if you were there. And at the same time sounding musical. Also their soundstaging is awesome.

That being said mine are modded T1's.

my gone DT-880-600 was not "darker" than my T1 , for DT-880 i would call it a bit more neutral , colder , less transparent / clear / revealing , less bass and mids .

For Treble peak , it's not just slight it's a massive one , yes it help for details to bring it peraphs a bit more evident  , but if you compare a DT-880 or a T1 , the T1 is the more detailed one ... beyer approch is like an microscope to music i think .

Another thing peraphs this is blasphemy , but being 3 weeks away from home i bring my T1 with me and coupled it with a dirty cheap DAC/AMP combo a HA INFO U2 Plus and i can say that it sound good , well miles away from my main setup , but hey it's not bad at all beetween this badly amped T1 and let say , a properly amped DT-880 choice would not be soo easy tongue.gif

There is no perfect headphones , T1 is my favorite atm , but not a perfect one for me it could be a little colder with a bit less impact / quantity on bass , mids should be like DT-48 etc regular_smile%20.gif

What mods did you make?

I added some dampening inside like Zombie_X did. And I really like how it sounds. Smoother treble and better soundstaging.

Inspect the said reviewer's gear and you'll have your answer... if "all beyerdynamic headphones" have a treble peak, he is ignorant to his gear lol.
