I'll definately check it out.

does it collapse the soundstage or affect the midrange in any way?

From what I can tell the soundstage stays intact but the midrange does become a bit fuller.

Nice.  I think this is something the T1 was in dire need of to help smooth things out and kick up the refinement.  Hope to hear/measure a modded pair someday.

I first thought of the damping when I saw the T90 images. The inside of their cup is bare, so it got me thinking... sound reflects. So I did a few tests and found the T1 was poorly dampened. You can hear the emphasis in the treble on the T1 at a certain point, and this felt damping fixes it completely. It's tricky to find the best thickness and arrangement of the felt within the cup, so we are testing out various combinations.

Well I'm back after a few weeks of listening to my T1's and letting them break-in. And Definately an awesome pair of headphones. Very neutral and very musical at the same time. It's tonally accurate and has an amazing speed that makes my electronic music sound incredible. The soundstaging is what blows me away the most. I haven't heard the HD-800's but on some recordings it completely fools me into thinking that I don't even have the headphones on!

And thanks to Zombie_X for posting his idea on dampening the T1. Because even though I liked it straight out of the box it is even better with some dampening added. Gets rid of that 8Khz spike and is much improved.

Hi all,

After a hour or so of listening, I think I am glad to say the T5p is a nice headphone! It sounds like a closed T1 to me but has an edgier treble presentation as well as deeper and more impactful bass. The soundstage is kind of small, but I will experiment with some damping and see if that helps. So far I am really enjoying this headphone.

how much edgier treble and how much bass ? kinda like a refined 990?

I thought the T5p was supposed to be bass light?
