Tell me about missing the setup. I spend 9 month out of 12 away from home and my rig. When I get back home I listen to the rig as much as possible.

Dang, that's rough.  Is there no way to take it with you or are you traveling frequently during those 9 months?

I work as a contractor in Asia's desert and flying on these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transall_C-160 I would look strange to say the least ;)

Accommodation is not great either, so they would really be battered in just a few months.

Been enjoying my T1 paired with WA2 for a while now.

+1 from me too, excellent service all around. Got my WA2 from them too, let me trial them for ages until I came to my decision.

Macbook Pro > (Rein Audio) X-DAC > V200 or O2 > T1 is a sublime sounding set up. Especially via Optical. I've never heard the T1's sound so musical or have so much sub bass. You do lose a fair bit of the soundstage mind, but it's a worthwhile trade off as it basically smoothens out the T1 entirely, adds some additional low end clout, perhaps more forward mids and just a smidgen of extra fun factor.

Out of the V200's they are a touch less detailed, but that additional (additional to Optical and compared to the O2) extra smoothness and sub bass oomph is seriously addictive. Vocals have a bit more weight to them (sometimes too much) but it's very natural sounding.

Then when I want a more neutral or typically T1 detailed and punchy sounding presentation, I just switch from Optical to USB and I get a tiny bit more air and sharpness again. In this sense I'm glad the X-DAC doesn't have asynchronus USB or a kind of USB processing that absolutely mimicks the Optical connection. Here you have a bit of leeway and the option for something a tad more musical or analogue like via Optical and slightly more detailed or neutral via USB.

I did actually contact Jason from Rein Audio to see if I was going crazy or a difference did exist (I did do a heck of a lot of testing and A/B'ing before coming to such a conlcusion mind), and he informed me that USB did indeed sound slightly different to Optical via the X-DAC. He refered to the latter as more "Natural" and "Hi-Fi" like.

I notice the same thing about the V200.  The sound is so lush and organic but I'm a bit bothered by the loss of separation and soundstage.  As for the details, it seems like they're all there but just don't come out at you at all.  I'll hear things via the Benchmark that I do not hear on the V200 but when I switch back to the V200 and know what to listen for, I find that they're all there.

The Benchmark sounds so much more airy and open though.  On certain tracks, it makes the V200 feel congested.

So the O2 still a competitive option I see. I have received my T1 but have not tried it yet with my O2. Been to busy at home to enjoy my new toy.  biggrin.gif

Does any T1 owners have tried the Bottlehead Crack OTL amplifier? What was/is your experience? Thanks

Hey there T1 owners,

I thought you would be the best group to ask rather than starting my own thread amongst the many. I currently have an HD598 and a DT990/600 paired with a Schiit Valhalla amplifier and use my iMac as my source. I currently use no DAC and will be in the market soon. However, my question is which will be a better bang for the buck upgrade in my system; T1 vs Schiit Bifrost ($450). I intend to purchase both eventually... but if I could only purchase one now, which has the better bang to buck ratio?

Thanks!

Definitely the T1 IMO.  The headphones make the biggest difference in terms of sound by far.

Second this.  If your source is clean and you already have a competent amp to drive the headphones then the biggest difference will come from the headphones first.

This is a toss-up for me. The T1 are worlds better than the DT990/600, but they're only at their natural and resolving best when fed with a quality source. Are you running lossless files off your iMac?
