Thinking about DIY cables, but overkill for me?

I am looking in to building my own set of speaker cables. Right now I have set of cheap (possibly monster) cables. My setup is as follows:

- Fubar II USB DAC hooked to my iMac. OpAmp OPA627AP

- NAD 7220PE (will most likely upgrade soon to something newer)

- Wharfadale Diamond 8.1's.

Nothing expensive, but I love the sound. I primarily listen to lossless music from my computer so thats the main source.

My question is, will DIY cables be a waste of time for me? Is it overkill for my setup? I have been looking in to this DIY: http://diyaudioprojects.com/Power/Low-Inductance-DIY-Speaker-Cables/.

Thanks in advance for the help.

DIY cables are not as much of a waste as commercial ones.

With an older amp like that, make sure the amp can drive the cable capacitance without oscillating. If the cables are kept short it should not be a problem but it is worth thought as you increase the cable lengths.

Sorry, but what do you mean by drive the capacitance without oscillating?

The cable lengths will be around 5 feet each, so not very long at all.

Product specs on the receiver are here: http://nadelectronics.com/products/hifi-receivers/7220PE-7020e-Stereo-Receivers/

I am new to a lot of this.

I ended up making some basic cables. I have to say they are a lot better than what I had before (monster junk-- gotta start somewhere right :P).

I used four 10 foot sections of 12 gauge wiring, shrink wrap, and techflex wrapping. To terminate I used puresonic banana plugs. They look rather good, and sound a lot better.
