John Mellencamp - No Better Than This

Have not see this discussed here yet. I just picked this up today and so far am liking it. Overall a somewhat downbeat back to basics record.

Some interesting notes about how and where it was recorded (1955 ampex tape recorder, one mic, historical places like sun studios)

It seems in many ways to be a continuation of his last album "life, death. love and freedom".

If you are looking for the John Mellencamp of "jack and diane" you wont find him here.

Has anyone seen any of his recent live shows. I'd be curious how these come across in front of a crowd.

Have not seen him recently but he is not good live. Just plays no intereaction with audience and a pretty boring show only one worse was Sting live

Intresting that it is recorded in Mono - sounds pretty good on headphones.

Just picked this up too, Definitely not your typical Mellencamp record, it's more Country than Rock but it's not really Country either. It's sort of folk in a Greg Brown sort of way, but that may not be an accurate description either. What it is, is a great singer songwriter doing his thing, Thanks John.

I know Jesus
And I know the devil
They’re both inside of me
All the time
This ain’t no picnic
That I’m livin’
Just a resting place
Before it’s time to go
You see the devil
He thinks he’s got me
But he ain’t got me
No

Great album, very well recorded, though the mono gimmick wasn't necessary IMO.
