Just thought wud share a quick little project carried out a couple of nights ago - first attempt and by no means 'perfect' but a definite improvement on the shop bought item - next to buy some more to change wiring and make better cabinets.....but for now here are pics of ones already done (apart from the paint job!).  Took about 2.5 hrs I guess - that was without any pre-planning really and just making up as went along - may be not the best way forward!!

2 - inside R.jpg

Inside R speaker - inc. rotating volume pot at bottom of image

3 - inside L.jpg

4 - cabinet sides extra glue.jpg

cabinet almost done - just hot-glued for speed - sanded off excess after (on outside that is)

5 - bass port removed.jpg

Thin section at rear of speakers hack-sawed off - leaving bass port and hole(s) for wire(s) intact - this was the L speaker - afterthought cud have left wires attached as with R - inc. USB / jack-plug cables.

6 - screw posts off.jpg

where originally had front 'baffle' and case screwed together - screw posts wud get in way of new cabinet - so snapped off!

7 - volume knob.jpg

as said, with no pre-planning (!) realised the volume 'disc' wud be too low after securing on inside of mdf (being 12mm thick MDF) - found a lid off small bottle to glue ontop of volume 'disc' - the original section is the slightly recessed part - just slotted over fixed mechanism on circuit board.

8 - bass port glued in.jpg

after luckily having correct dia. drill bit - drilled hole at rear once cabinet constructed for rear original plastic section - added small amount of hot glue round edge for good seal - again sanded off.

9 - LED notch.jpg

leaving the power LED on - had to hack out notch for baffle to fit snug onto cabinet

10 - insides glued.jpg

glued everything into place - messy I know! - this inc. wires just behind plastic disc on rear - keeping loose knots in wires - in case of any sudden tugs.

11 - complete.jpg

not ideal i know - but just hot glued the corners of baffle onto each cabinet - seemed to make better than expected seal/hold.

12 - complete 2.jpg

apart from the paint job - DONE!

Did try unscrewing the drivers but slight glued in round inside-edge of baffle - hence leaving plastic front.  Even-so things, although on a small scale, tightened up.  slightly more bass due to increased volume size of cabinet and tighter - just need some suitable feet - slightly bigger at front to angle up-wards.

Not as portable as the size of originals - but not far off - worth it for sound - until hopefully have improved models.

Not too bad sound for £8 speakers - (since seen online for £6.99 inc. shipping) - much better than other portable speakers heard cost more.

Cant wait to hear after using, soon to arrive, Icon Mobile amp (first amp - of this size too).

If get round to making new ones - improved will post.....
