By chance, did you have an opportunity to listen with both OS's ML & Mav? Musically, which one gets the nod?

SO, I have to say I did not notice any difference....This was, however, right around the time I switched the the Cary amp and I added the Vandersteen's so there were a lot of changes to the chain. No biggie swapping out amps and speakers, but switching back and forth with an OS is a bigger challenge.

The drivers brings some improvement for free, mainly integer mode that wasn't possible with the previous driver. smily_headphones1.gif

I never had this problem with my DAC-1 because I've always used a USB bridge to Coax...

Local seller is offering Wyred W4S DAC-2 for 1100$, If I buy...planning to use this as preamp and DAC for poweramp driving HE-6.

Question is how this yulong DA8, both has good reviews...I am basically looking for DAC with good preamp.

Please suggest.

I have never heard the Yulong so I have no opinion there. I enjoyed the DAC-2 very much. I upgraded it to the DAC2 DSDse. It is a fantastic DAC. I have only used it a little as a Pre-amp mainly just to experiment. It works fine. 70 step volume control. Nice wireless remote. I am satisfied with no desire to upgrade from here,.

Does anyone know anything about the new beta DAC2 Mavericks driver just released on March 7, 2014?  I installed the first Mavericks driver when it came out a few months ago.  Is this latest one any different?

There's no mention of it on the W4S site, other than its appearance on their downloads page.  Nothing on their FaceBook page either.

I have installed the latest beta from March 7th.
I wasn't expecting anything really new but music seemed more transparent and more details.

A friend of mine had problems with the previous beta driver from last year : he had a strange noise at the start of each track playing with Pure Music, this bug disappeared with the March updates.

That;s good to know.  Did you install the newest update right over the old one, or did you delete the old one first?

I just spoke with Clint at Wyred4Sound.  He says the new driver will definitely solve my problem--it comes with an uninstaller that should be run first, to get rid of the old driver, so I think my question has been answered.  I'll give this a try and see what happens.

I installed the new DAC 2 driver during my lunch break (I work at home), and I'm happy to report perfect glitch free audio now, either with BitPerfect or Audirvana.  Crackling and static are completely gone.

The W4S DAC 2 was the last thing I suspected as the culprit--I did troubleshooting with my Samsung monitor, BitPerfect and Audirvana, Mavericks, iTunes, etc.; and a simple DAC 2 driver upgrade solved everything.

Clint did mention that these ongoing updates are beta releases, and that there still are a few glitches when using Amarra with the DAC 2; eventually when those are solved there will be a formal, official update.

Someone over at Computer Audiophile gave me the heads up on this updated driver--I didn't see a mention of it's release anywhere else, and would not have known about it otherwise.

I must confess that I brutally installed the newest driver without un-installing the previous, there was no actual instruction about the installation process included in the package. biggrin.gif

DAC2 DSDse owners can now order a Femto clock for $150. Ship to W4S for the upgrade! Buy it new for $2549 with the clock pre-installed.

I spoke with Clint ant W4S today on the phone--he said when downloading the newest driver, there is an uninstaller included to get rid of the old driver.  I did that, installed the new version, and all of my static crackle problems have vanished.

Maybe with this version, it didn't matter much anyway.
