Does anyone own the Wyred4sound DAC 2? - Page 87

 Another audio roller coaster. I've done this dance a few times before, keeping the current OS but moving it onto another drive and then upgrading.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

It is always dicey once you have everything in the chain dialed in. So far so good for me and Mavericks.

I've sent an e-mail to W4S support, and I got this answer from Clint Hartman:

I got the same letter.  Let's post here when the driver comes out.  My DAC2 is a very nice looking paperweight at the moment!

I sent another e-mail today to remind Clint that some of us are like stucked without music simply because we are relying on the USB input. I haven't received any answer yet. frown.gif

Thank God for good ol' fashioned records!

OH!  Just went to the website-- coincidentally-- they posted this update this morning.

I've always been a fanatical Carbon Copy Cloner user.  When I went ahead and installed Mavericks on my Mac Mini, I discovered that the W4S DAC-2 wasn't working.    I didn't really know what the problem was until I checked these forums.  (And the BitPerfect Facebook page).  What happens is that the DAC-2 is not selected as the sound output device in the Mac's system preferences, and when you try to select it, the selection doesn't hold.  So the result was no sound at all.

I then started up from my bootable clone drive, which was still running Mountain Lion, and cloned back to my internal drive.  So now I'm good until the new drivers are out.  After the first time, cloning only takes a few minutes; I do it whenever I make any changes to the mac's software.

Got this note today--

Hello,

We hope that your day is off to a good start and wish you a wonderful weekend.

Your patience throughout this matter is greatly appreciated and we are deeply sorry for this inconvenience. The release of the new drivers has been delayed much longer than we expected and than we initially advised when you contacted us. In this instance the problem stemmed from the aspect that we do not develop the drivers internally and rely on a 3rd party. Fortunately we have just received an update from the developers and the driver is now working very well and nearly complete. The last obstacle is one that should not be an issue but must be overcome nonetheless. It is related to the global sign certificate that is attached to the driver for recognition by the OS. This recognition process should be a slam dunk but the new OSX is not cooperating. Although this is currently delaying the release, it is a minor issue and the team is already in contact with the appropriate parties to correct it.

I truly hope to that the next email will include drivers so that you can get back to enjoying your music. Thank you again for your patience and support.

Best Regards,
Clint

Really? It's been a few weeks now. Unacceptable IMO.

I'm surprised that my DAC2 works so well on Ubuntu, I have upgraded few days ago to ubuntu 13.10 with a newer kernel (3.11) and the dac2 still work, I had to do nothing at all :)

I've tried this driver and it seems to work fine. A very nice improvement from the previous driver : you can use integer mode in Audirvana+ it wasn't allowed before.

Any other reports on this driver?  I'm hesitant to upgrade my Mac Mini to Mavericks until I know for sure if this is working for other people.

By chance, did you have an opportunity to listen with both OS's ML & Mav? Musically, which one gets the nod?
