Can you be more specific as to how the BDA-2 trumps the DAC2 DSD?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I'd be more interested in looking at the BMC DAC at this price level.  I am sticking with my DAC2 and doing the DSD upgrade.  More $$$ then I would get the MSB in a heartbeat.  Or a Briscati!

Can't as I haven't heard the DSD version. But DSD is a format I have no interest in whatsoever...remember SACD, DVD audio, etc...

But that said, the DAC-2 DSD via spdif is the same as the regular DAC-2 (please correct me if I'm wrong here). The improvements via this mode (70% of my usage) are better dynamics, deeper/more taught, and better definition and imaging. Not night and day after all as we're talking about some really good DACs here, but enough to bring my systems (dynamic and stat) to another leve.

EJ Sarmento Quote from 6 Moons I found interesting,

I can’t count the times I’ve seen others implement changes and tout them as improvements when all they really did was swap parts which only had auxiliary or supplemental functions. We instead focus tactically on the bits which actually affect realistic and palpable changes.

This is a good example of why I love W4S gear. Attention to meaningful details.....

Twice the price not counting the power supply. I am sure it is wonderful. I am not sure my ears could tell the difference at this level.

A bit of a warning for MacOS and DAC2 USB input users : don't upgrade to Mavericks, although the last MacOS flavour is free, the W4S drivers are not ready yet to handle the talk between the OS and the DAC.

I've sent an e-mail to W4S support, and I got this answer from Clint Hartman:
Quote:
Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and I am happy to offer my assistance. The new OSX prevents our DAC-2 driver from communicating properly. We are already working on a solution and I have noted your contact information. I will provide an update and/or the new drivers as soon as they are available. I don't expect there to be any significant delay and we greatly appreciate your patience and support. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Best Regards,
Clint

If you have the DAC-2 DSDse you are OK as it is native USB on the new MAC OS.

That's exactly what I said wink.gif
Only the DAC2 isn't working on MacOS 10.9 Mavericks, the drivers haven't been adapted yet.

Thanks for this very nice offer, please send your wire to my bank account 99999.999999.Y in Paris, France. biggrin.gif
Seriously I'm a bit short in funding at the moment, and family comes first.

Anyway, since nobody did mention this problem with Mavericks, I wanted to stress that no driver is currently available for the DAC2 on MacOS 10.9 so don't update until W4S has released it. cool.gif

I'm teasing (mostly).  :veryevil:

Thanks for the warning.  I wasn't in a hurry to upgrade before, now I'll just wait until it's necessary.

I am enjoying Mavericks with the DSDse. However, over at CA there is a lot of discussion and some disappointment with Mavericks sound quality vs Mt. Lion.
