Well, I noticed W4S added another version of the DAC-2 (the DAC-2 DSD).  I only got my DAC-2 a couple weeks ago so I sent Clint a note.  Anyway, we worked it out and I'm going to get the DSD upgrade.  I hate to part with my DAC for the time it'll take for the upgrade, but I felt I had to act.

Good middle ground....That step gives you the USB upgrade as well... I am not sure the extra $900 for the upgraded resistors and premium parts makes sense. Or maybe I am trying to convince myself they are not needed....deadhorse.gif

Since I got my start working and playing in audio, it was around the Pro Audio crowd and Musicians first. So, I have an appreciation for gears with Pro Audio roots.

dallan, you considering this upgrade 'round June-July-August?

Six month plan. I have a slight ground loop on my current dac that drives my crazy with sensitive headphones.

That would drive me ph34r.gifBatty. Speaking of "sensitivity," think of all the folks who live away from the city in really eerily quiet locales. I envy that natural black background for audio.

Think I'll start seeking feedback from the Antelope thread and get a feeling for these boxes. I should add, in the event I purchase no other DAC at all, I've been happy with my W4S shoe box.

Yes. Currently in the middle of a move - the audio rig is boxed and parked. I view this as an opportunity to try different things inside the listening room when I get settled.

I have a question for your guys, do you guys ever have problems getting audio signal from the DAC-2?

on both my windows 7 pc and macbook pro on os 10.8, I have problems getting signal. The display will have show signal eg. 44.1k yet I have no sound. The only way I could manage to fix it is switching it on and off with the power switch at the rear as many time as required for me to get sound. And eventually I will get sound. It's very annoying. I am not sure if the problem stems from something being broken or simply because there's something wrong with me setup? This occurs both with USB and Toslink input formats.

On another note, I'm unable to play file beyond 16/44.1k with toslink. If I wish to play 24/96 or 24/192, I have to switch to USB. Is there something wrong here?

Any help is appreciated, thanks so much

What software are you using to play your music?

It sounds like Amarra isn't switching the format.  In your Audio MIDI settings app (on your Mac), is your output set to your DAC-2?

Any thoughts on the DAC-2 vs the new Teac UD-501? Or any other ideas in the $1500 or less range.

I'm currently using the Bifrost-Uber and have been finding it a bit harsh in the treble at times so I am now getting itchy to look at alternatives.

I had some time with the Teac and my HD800's. It is a really nice unit for it's price point. I found it did not have the bottom end that the W4S DAC-2 provided. But for under a grand it is definitely a top 5 consideration.

Inside my own listening room, the Teac could have been free but without a "Bottom end" I'd politely decline. wink_face.gif

My thoughts as well... A really nice first effort though.

My return on the W4S box has been a great one! I don't feel the need to upgrade, as it can afford me more time and enjoyment. Who doesn't like to save money? rolleyes.gif evil_smiley.gif Audio addicts!

Each night before bedtime, I gather my strength and place lust out on the porch like a cat! And wake up with lust comfortably in bed... how does she do it?! confused.gif
