Places you can't go back to

Today there was a silent auction for fixtures at a restaurant that recently closed its doors. My family and I have been going there for nearly 50 years. I didn't go to the auction, but I was there on the last day they were serving.

Recently, I discovered that a century old house I lived a year in is now a parking lot. An incredible tiki bar I spend many nights at is now a drive-through ATM for a bank.

A surplus electronics store a few miles away closed its doors at the beginning of the year. I used to drop in once a week, always found cool stuff and loved chatting with the owner.

There are many other places I spent a lot of time at that are now gone. So if anyone wants to wax nostalgic about a favorite place that's gone, post it here. A lot of great places are disappearing in this economy, so let's pay some tribute and talk about them here.

The primary school I went to as of August this year when they sent in the bulldozers. I shed some tears when I first saw the pictures.

My elementary school was bulldozed too. I was visiting in California last week and went for a walk, and seeing the site where it used to be, now just piles of rubble. It was already an old school when I attended 1964-1971.

I'm newly single and checking out old places around the Denver area we used to frequent. So many gone, and quite a few still remain. I try to patronise the ones still here.

The house I grew up in was recently bulldozed as well.

There was also a vacant parking lot where I spent many a night chatting with my girlfriends that has now become a building site for high end apartments.
