RadioShack Pot in a Cmoy?

Hey guys, joined the forums last week and already building a Cmoy and a SSMH, lots of good stuff here.

Anyways, I tried to get all the parts in one order from mouser, and the few stragglers from radioshack.  Ended up getting the 10k pot with "clicker" from radio shack, p.n. 271-215.  It has 6 terminals and no diagram as to what they are, I'm a noob at electronics so I'm lost, apart from what I could gather from different resistance readings.  The pot diagrams I have found are not layed out like this particular one. Does anybody know what terminals are what on this pot?  Also, I thought that I could eliminate the separate power switch by using this type of pot?  I'm a bit stumped trying to wire this in, appreciate the help.

Here's an extremely accurate drawing of the pot terminals from the back side,

I remember seeing that pot at radioshack, I think it's a mono pot - i.e. the three lugs at the bottom are for the normal pot functionality, and the top three lugs are for the switch functionality.

As for figuring out how a pot is wired, Tangent's writeup was really helpful to me -

Just get a multimeter and go to town. It's pretty easy once you know how a pot works.

Yes.

Not long ago, I added part numbers to my CMoy tutorial's parts list for the two Radio Shack stereo audio pots.  Hint.

Alright, that makes sense it's a "mono pot" I thought the top 3 lugs controlled the switch, as one side is n/o and the other n/c. Tangent, your site has been a great help, it's what I've been using as a guide, and it's where I found the radioshack p/n. I'm still a bit unclear on how to wire in two channels with only 3 terminals though? It's like you would need two of these pots to work?

you don't wire two channels with only three terminals for each signal (left and right), you need one "gang" on a potentiometer. A mono pot (which is only one gang) can only control one signal (input, ground, and wiper). Unless you want both L and R to have the same signal, or you want to get two of these pots so you can have separate channel volume controls, you should find yourself a stereo pot (dual-gang).

Alright, maybe I'm not as crazy as I thought then.   So I guess the ratshack pot is going to the parts bin.  Back to plan B, ripping apart some old walkman to get a different pot, and add in a regular power switch.  Thanks for the help.

Mouser has the Alps RK0971221Z05 pot, which is stereo and also has a switch. Tangent's shop has them too.

Which one did you get?  Can you double-check the part number on the package?

It was p/n 2710215.  It's not the one in the picture on radio shack's web site either.

But, I just hardwired everything for the moment being and the amp works great.

That's very weird.  I've removed it from the table until I can get to the Shack to check things out.
