SR60-Mod - Page 62

It's a very thin stretchable lambskin leather.  The screens are held in by tension, they are molded slightly in the cup.

And now that I've seen the loose mesh, I feel more willing to buy the hex mesh I saw to use it on the future cups. But how are the screens attached? The don't look bent at all.

Thanks eclein, they sound better than they look, I am very happy with the mods.  No, it is a seperate headband that I constructed out of two cardboard cut outs from a cereal box.  There is a tutorial on how to make a padded leather headband for Grados that I used.  I wouldn't do it again though it was very time consuming, but fun.

Kimchee- Did you just put the leather and padding over the existing headband??

Those cups look good Kim. Makes me think I need cups deeper than my current 1". With my new hole saws and access to a drill press, I will likely venture into 2" cups if I can find the wood, or at least glue two boards together if I can't.

Otherwise besides grilles, my "proof of concept" versions are finished. Used cut off finishing nails to attach the cups to the gimbals so that they are still easy to remove, yet have a small amount of rotation allowed.

I can't get pictures to post through the Head-Fi insert image and for some reason I can't get my Imageshack images to post, so as soon as I can figure that out, I'll post pics of what I have so far.....

I think the cups you are seeing are 1 1/2 inches.  Of the cocobolo stock I've been able to acquire, I have 1" and 1 1/2".  I use the 1" to rebuild the forward shell; I used the 1 1/2" to make the rear shell.  KimChee has done a really cool job of matching them up with his cool, innovative pads.

For those that are very particular about how their stuff looks-like me !!

I did the quarter mod to the stock cush pads that came with my used SR60's and instead of having the rough scissor cut edges visible

when not wearing the phones, I turned mine upset down then put them back on the cans-backward- so the clean machine made circular cut is on the inside and looks good.

The pads actually look OK and feel great plus you have the opening and it looks clean as and sharp.

I've been tinkering this morning, experimenting with different pads. I've been using the jumbos up to this point. They present the music in a much more laid back way. The bass is a little thicker and it tames the highs and it gives the impression of a little more sound stage or dimension. When I switched to bowls the presentation got much more aggresive. The mids were a little more present and the overall presentation was much brighter, maybe to bright. Maybe I'm just used to the darker sound of the HF2, maybe the silver recable juiced up the highs a little too much but I find myself wanting a compromise between what the bowls are presenting and what the jumbos offer.

Also I covered up 2 of the 6 holes I originally started with, but accidentally pulled up some of the felt on one of the cups. I tamped it down and added some of the band aid I used to cover the holes to keep it down, but there seems to be a little extra resonance, or this sort of bloopiness coming from that cup confused.gif

I usually take a quarter or some round coin, washer, etc and take a razor blade around it, I'm like you the rough cuts bother me.  Razor blade makes a clean cut.

I started a thread over on audiocircle with Bills OK and hope to get more converts to the way of "THE MOD"

OK....A kind head-fi-er sent me some of the extra dynamat he had and I got it today...Foil backing, dynamat, cardboard.....so do I peel off the cardboard and slap a disk of this stuff on the back of the driver button??

The foil stays on correct??? I've never used any of this kinda stuff so I'm easily confused...confused.gif

Hmm, works for me just linking direct to it and using the [img]tags with the BB editor. But they look great. What is the cup made of?

That is a seriously nice job!

Wow, that is very neat!

About your picture problem... it's probably java related. Google Chrome has some serious issues with this new head-fi lay-out...

dxps26- Those cans are pretty much awesome!!!!!!

ArmAndHammer- was kind enough to send me some Dynamat and I stuck a circular piece on the back of each driver.....the effects are subtle but noticeable, it refines the sound, why?, I have no clue...but it works!!!!

I may have a secret weapon in my arsenal, there is a little thing called an EVS ground enhancer that hit and became very popular with the folks over on audiocircle....its basically a piece of wire that when attached to the negative terminal on speakers themselves, or the amp itself somehow improves the imaging and soundstage. I have used them on my vintage JBL's with amazing results, you just attach them to the negative terminal and listen, its very dramatic in many instances. So anyway, I have a set that I'm going to attach to each ear cups negative terminal and see what happens. The wires in the earcups are White/Blue and Red/Blue...is the Blue wire the negative??? Here is what they look like:

I figured I could tape them on and test the sound first......if these work like they do with speakers...Oh My!!!!

If it's Chrome, it's only the Windows version. I've had 0 problems in Chrome on my macbook. I'm thinking it may be Head-Fi uploader combined with the Rich Text editor. I use neither now and it's working flawlessly. Just use Imageshack, Flickr, etc. and get the direct link, and then use the BB code editor and [IMG]tags.

Yup, Using Chrome. Switching to Firefox for now - using windows on a Cousin's laptop after 3+ years of Linux is such a pain.
