SR60-Mod - Page 315

I have a set of Bills first cocobolo type slipons with a crack on one side and a piece of the wood totally seperated. It could possibly be epoxied however.

If you would like them for the cost of shipping ($12.50) I will ship them out to you when our postal strike ends. They will come with silver mesh screens.

They may be able to be used as is, and look nice (other then the cracked piece by the hole for the gimbal)

Send me a PM if you want em.... I would prefer to mail em out to someone that would like some nice shells, but cant really afford it.

Darren

Why do they like you? Why do they hate me? :-(

I'm not interested in the shells - however, that's very generous of you to make such an offer to the members here.  In the meantime, is there a way you could post some pictures of the shells?  It seems like we have too much text in  this thread lately - and, not enough pictures.

Don't worry ... I'll be posting some fresh pictures tomrrow.  wink_face.gif

Even Alessandro won't work with you??  I couldn't believe how fast they responded.  I thought Alessandro even shipped their headphones out internationally for free.  Correct?  I don't see what the issue would be if someone were to ask for a part.  That's just odd.  I know Grado doesn't send out parts - other than gimbals.

I once asked for a driver since one of them broke (okay I killed it ;p). I got one reply, and one reply only: "Please ship them in, we will fix them for 30$ and send them back to you".

That is absolutely insane as shipping is at least another 30$ for me so that makes it 60$ when a new set costs 100$. I never understood why they couldn't send me a driver for 30$...

Grado never do that, they take your headphones, replace the whole cable/drivers. and ship them back. maybe it has something to do with "normal" folks wouldnt know what to do with a driver tongue_smile.gif

Well, maybe it has something to do with being slightly too rigid...

It's a bit frustrating when you just want to fix them yourself but I can see why they don't want to. Otherwise I'd probably try and get a pair of RS1 or PS1000 drivers or something, and just install own cups, cable and headband. tongue.gif

or worst, someone could discover that all drivers are the same with slight variations on the damp/felp/plate/holes eek.gif

Nice avatar, James... I got to hang out with Roine Stolt a couple of years ago in Denver...

So does anyone know how sensitive the drivers are? I'm ordering Cabillas cups, but you need to remove your drivers and then desolder/solder them back to put them inhis cups. I'm a little concerned because I'm afraid of taking the drivers out and I've never soldered before...I don't wanna break my 225i's...

hell, they should be offering their drivers separately for people that are diy'ing their own headphones in my opinion. They would sell a ton of drivers and could even start offering more cup options if they wanted to. They would benefit from the things the diy community came up with, learn some things from us while they provide the materials for us to work with.

Then, they could take our ideas, apply them into new headphone products and sell them complete. Plenty of people will buy full headphones from grado, but it would be really neat of them to take care of the people that want to customize their own pair. Then again, maybe I just have this false feeling of how large the grado modding community is. I'd still love to see them take care of us in this fashion though. I'd pay for a pair of the higher up drivers, and a pretty penny too.

another valid point. But, if that is all that is different in the drivers, I don't think they should be making claims they are different. That is just wrong in my opinion.

As it was also my first time modding my SR60i's this week, I would say I felt the same, at least for the driver liberation part. But if you are careful and don't exert too much brute force, the drivers should come out ok, as I haven't broken mine yet (knock on woods). I haven't desoldered my cables yet, but I'm not too concerned as I've made some IC cables and a couple of cmoys before. If you haven't done any soldering at all, I suggest that you should practice one some cheap bread/perf boards with some cheap resistors first, won't take too long but definitely worth the time.
