Is this usps problem or bills?

Sent you a PM. USPS is known for having horrible tracking with no updates until after you get it so no updates on the USPS end is not surprising at all. However I have never had priority mail, which is usually three day shipping, show up as late as the package currently is.

What little info on tracking they have (estimated delivery) has usually been correct for me. They never do update though. I had "departure scan" and "delivered" as about my only updates.

But they aren't the nicest with keeping everything in one piece though, my shells that I did get arrived broken. Be weary of USPS if it doesn't follow everything as planned.

Were they packed correctly? Mine were just thrown in a box and put in the mail. I picked up the package from my front door and thought it was a puzzle.

A little loose, but it seemed protected enough (box lined with bubble wrap, sadly not the cups themselves though) that unless they had been thrown at my door they shouldn't have broken. They wouldn't have fit regardless with the cable notch not fitting the 8 conductor i cable though.

I'm trying to build a computer, but I keep buying audio equipment, or things to modify with :)

P.S. if anyone around here is familiar with building desktop rigs PM me. I have a parts list all selected and could use any advice anyone can give :)

Two completely different things. In my view the HD414 pads (be it stock, quarter modded or reversed) can not be compared with the salad bowls at all.

The GS1000 pads are of very high quality and are made out of different kind of foams (different density anyway). I find that with the MS1000, after I opened some holes, the bass really shines with the pads. It's like the shape of the pads literally bring the bass to your ears.

One word of warning though: the GS1000 pads have a tendency to suck out mids. Perhaps with opening the holes and lining the pads with cloth will bring enough warmth. For the MS1000 mod we use distancers. That actually gets me to some thoughts we shared in the MS1000 thread. It is that we think that with all the current mods (lining the pads, bilamods etc) the MS1000 mod also works for Grado headphones. Head-fi veteran Kees tried this (even before the MS1000 mod) with this SR325 and had good results. Should you be interested, I have some wooden distancers laying around here... :-)

According to whoever said what Bila uses, this is the same size as the shiny aluminum one that fits their description, but black since it seems you like the black grill look.

That stuff was pretty easy to work with, especially compared to window screen.

I ordered a this stuff on my Amazon Prime account so it came in today. There is enough extra here for about two pairs of Grados. If anyone needs some, let me know.

Hmmmm I was going to get some shells from bila but will be going with Marty instead based on Chris and others' recommendations.

Finally had time to do a bit more to my 60i's after being away for the weekend and Monday. Took the plastic shells apart with some steam, although the process took longer than I anticipated, it was still pretty pain-free. Also took out the plastic screen from the shell with a hammer and a pair of pliers biggrin.gif, will put in some metal mesh that I ordered up from Amazon.

Now it's time to vent the drivers.

so while waiting on a couple of woodies from Marty, I thought I'd re-terminate these sr60i's.

I'd thought about actually just recabling them, but wasn't sure what cable to use. canare/ mogami seems popular with the IC crowd, and I've made a couple of IC's with canare, but would it be kind of stiff/thick for use as headphone cables? can't really justify putting some silver cable on a pair of sr60i's either. Hmmmmmmmmmm decisions decisions...

Well I guess this isn't even a question, just thought I'd throw this out there to see what you guys think. Mainly I really just wanna make the cable shorter and more portable for portable/iPod listening smily_headphones1.gif

What's wrong with Canare? I've used the L-4E6S for mine and they work fine, if you remove the thick insulation and the braided shield they're actually pretty flexible as well (the shield, for all intents and purposes as a headphone cable, is unnecessary, by the way). You can also justify putting some silver cable on the SR60is if they're no longer SR60is.. rolleyes.gif

Well I hate to further derail this thread but I have waited almost 2 months now for my modified grados from bila. I hope I get them soon but it seems unlikely. I've been promised a tracking number but never received one.

how do you do that?

can you ask usps to give you a fake tracking #?

vented 4 holes on each driver, and also (partially?) liberated one

time for bed!cool.gif

I would never be able to leave just one driver liberated and one driver unliberated even if it meant sleeping at 3am, it'd just keep bugging me till I set both of them to rights.

I think canare would work fine. It would be much more flexible than my 8 conductor silver cable. Same goes with a nice 4 conductor silver cable, they can be flexible enough that I use one on my portapros for a portable open set-up. sometimes I kind of wish they were on the grados, although my grado cable is a beauty, its a bit unwieldy and I really didn't see that huge of a jump. I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference between a 4 and 8 conductor, but its nice to know I have pretty much the best cable I can get. Now, if only I could say the same for the joints I soldered.

But, yeah if I was to do it again, I'd probably stray away from the 8 conductor and put a 4 conductor similar to my portapro cable on my grados. That or leave em stock and reterminate.

OH, you said for portable use, well I think a silver cable could be used in that fashion, but I'm sure there are other cables that you can get cheaper and that will be more portable. I doubt you will see too much of a difference using an ipod for a source.
