I've decided  or rather I have already purchased some Good as new sr60i's from Ebay  . I know because of the experience with my igrado they have a attractive sound I will appreciate. Also that they are mod-able is a fun way to experiment and as mentioned personalize the sound signature a little and or learn a little about headphones .

Eventually I'll look out for some second hand HD650's and see how there signatures compare . If I prefer the grado signature I will try and visit a Grado stockist & compare a more expensive model Against my modded RS60i's .<<< well that's the plan anyway :-) .If I prefer the HD650's then I'll stick with them but maybe I will enjoy the differences these two makes of headphones offer .

Anyone  listen regularly too senns HD600 or 650 and Grado's SR series of headphones or do most choose on or the other .

These "Good as new" SR60i's I have bid for have turned out to be SR80's without the "I" .

Have I been hoaxed or as the seller is suggesting have I in fact got a upgrade as there 80's and not 60's.

Are the SR80 (I assume they will have holes in the pads) as Good as  SR60i's .

Without the I is even better. If it is really a pair of SR80s you should be thanking him wholeheartedly.

Unless there is something in the signature of the SR60 you love I think the general consensus is that the SR80s best them. You get the bowl pads, in any case. And when you start modding the drivers are identical. And the non-i version has more of the original Grado house sound than the i version, I believe, but feel free to contradict me.

I just put ccobolo cups on my 80's (no I) and they are sounding amazing! The 80 drivers like wood! Unless there was some reason you think you want 60i's I'd say keep 'em!

I certainly would prefer bowl pads as it makes sense that the less physical barriers are between the ear and the sound the clearer the sound should be,unless the foam is added as a filter in order to dampen and tame  the high frequencies specifically so as to level out the whole frequency range  .

I was just going by the grado website stating the "i" was a acoustic improvement across the SR range .

But it seems there is not general consensus that the "i" has improved the quality enough so as to make a 60i better balanced than a 80 no i .

There is always the possible placebo effect that I'm sure many manufacturers make use of .

It must be a very tempting proposition to just very slightly alter the look and or sound of a headphone with no real proof it has achieved more balance then just add an Xtra Digit to the model number so people believe they are getting something extra .

Not that I'm saying there was not an improvement of balance with the Grado SRi series .I don't have a i and a non i to compare .And the Grado site doesn't seem to be awash with much technical details and  measurements to show how the i has altered the Grado sound .

Anyway at least I get the Bowl pads :-)  .

I definitely prefer bowls. I really wouldn't care if they were original 80's... I was just wondering why he thought they were better. I'm sure they sound a bit different, but every pair does.. they all sound like grado's though. :) I do like the aesthetics on the i versions... and I thought they came with a better cable?

the 60i I bought for my girlfriend sounds better than my SR80. a lot to do with the larger chamber I imagine.

And I found bowls to uncomfortably painful for my ears. comfies rocked my world then, still rocks my world now, but since its so close to the driver, the heat bothers me.

so the 80s dont come with comfies? and they do have the larger cable right?

I miss listening to my Grados. I need a donor pair to get them going again.

If you have a cheap pair of 60's or even a pair for parts, PM me. I am dying to get listening again. Especially after putting a ton of work into them and basically never listening to them once finished.

I think current 80i comes with comfies but my sr80 came with bowls.

The cable between the 60i and the sr80 looked the same to me.

look, i am tired of reading and i really read hundreds of posts reffering to grado, but never any comparasion between sr60i and sr80i....  i mean nothing that would come clear into my head... only vague ideeas, but there are people that say that 60 are better... this is why i am asking this.... this is a huge grado fan thread, and i really want to see if everyone tells me, here that sr80i are better....

i have about 150+hours of reading things about grados.... but i just do want to hear an short and exact answer.... what are the differences?... do they exist?... and is or not 80 better than 60?...

What adapter are you using? I need a new one anyway since mine keeps shorting out.
