boy was i wrong. the sound was boomy and uncontrolled, and the highs were very bright. i disassembled the cable after a week and assembled a 29awg pure silver stranded cable reusing the same connectors and the sound was so damn different.

If you google you'll find some articles on why silver plated copper just isn't a good idea. I can't explain it as well, and I don't want to say something off the top of my head that would make this information less credible.

Have what you will, but I was in the same boat as you boys till I made the effort and did it myself. I love copper and I love silver, I hate that inbetween called SPC. =D

I've decided to make a hybrid. working out my design now.

Umm yeah... snake oil. I really have to disagree with you here, I think you received some terrible silver plated wire if it made the sound bad. I highly recommend navships wire it is excellent. Tinned copper is also better than just copper. All of these cryo treated $10 a foot copper is pure bs. The only reason that it sounded bad was probably because your head was telling you it isn't the best available. Yes silver is better but there is no way silver plated copper is worse than regular copper.

Stunning!  Now, I have a question.  What did you do to shine those up?

The scratchy side of one of these: (seriously)

Went round the cups following their shape carefully to create the brushed aluminium effect.

sarcasm can get you far but if you call that snake oil then silver plated copper is snake oil too and we'd be saying cables have no sonic character. but you're saying silver plated copper sounds better than regular copper which means you use a fair amount of snake oil yourself.

for the record, my silver stranded only costs me 2.99 per foot.

if you're going to call me out on my opinion then i think there is little point in me sharing my thoughts on it.

and no i'm not trying to sell you anything.

Yep! It's carbon fiber. All I need now is to make a form and start to work with it.

PS. I know these aint SR60's but the general idea stays the same ;)

You beat me to the punch! I've had some CF for a while now and I've been meaning to form it. I just haven't had the time and it will have to be put on the back burner for another couple of weeks before I have the time:( Are you planning on just making the outer shells or are you doing a full liberation? Good luck with your experiments!

I'm excited to see how they turn out! And I just had an idea: Aluminum outers, with cf inners? Kind of like a spaceage sr325? of all the parts, the inner tube would be the easiest to replicate in cf. wow,  the acoustic velocities of that combo are nearly terrifying to think of.

Care to share where from? I'd certainly prefer silver over copper or SPC, but it's usually quite expensive. That's at least reasonable.

Nice job lawrywild... What type of wood did you go with on the inside and how do they sound?

No I'm saying Silver is a better conductor so it makes the wire better. I'm calling your fancy $10 a foot copper snake oil because it's the same metal that has no proven difference. Like I said silver makes a difference saying that silver plating makes the sound worse is wrong it makes the same improvements that regular silver wire does just to a lesser degree since it is only plating.

and all of a sudden you have a notion i pay 10 bucks a foot for my copper.

alright. Be happy with your strong accusations and wild assumptions. You'll go far in life my friend.

and I love how you call my trial and error snake oil but not offer any proper counter argument to support your case and kill mine.

It's wide enough to form a full shell, inner and outer. Grados are ~3cm tall and carbon tape is 5cm so I can form even deeper shells than stock. During this week I'll start from making a slip on, depending on effects I might try partial liberation afterwards with a long single shell design.

Lawry, is the wood actually making a difference there?
