I agree, although used oil usually winds up in my ear. Not a ton of fun.

Bill

Thanks Bill. I appreciate it.

I tried blowing on the driver, and it just made things quite a bit worse. Gently inhaled afterward, a little bitter, but not much. Tried it again, and it's fixed for a few moments until there's a decent bass hit and then the phone just stops working. Inhale a bit, it turns on, but it's back to being worse than before if it's working at all. Before I did the inhale/exhale thing, I couldn't tell if my driver was crinkled or not, but now it's pretty crinkled and I can see it through the grill. Bill, I'm certainly not blaming you, (I'm sure I did something wrong, ha) but that really didn't work.

If you want to email me your address, I can try to get them sent some time tomorrow. You could PM as well, but be warned, I probably won't be able to reply because of my 2 PM per day limit that I hope eventually goes away. I'd like to toss some ideas to you, if you're ok with that.

Why does this site have a 2 day PM limit for people who aren't prolific posters? Just curious is all.

Summer?  That seems like ... like years away.  biggrin.gif  wink.gif

You obviously aren't in High School. Like half the school (and staff) has turned their brains to "Summer Mode" and are passively awaiting the end of the year. Myself included (unfortunately).

Your Summer seems to take a long time to arrive, at least in the top half of the Northern Hemisphere. All we ever get down here is footage of trucks sliding around on icy roads - its horrific, but I can see why so many people spend a lot of time listening with music/games etc.

Correct.  High school was about 29 years ago for me - or, that's when I graduated.  My summer break after high school was a whole 3 days long.  I then went directly to basic training for the military - and, really haven't stopped since.  Sure, I get vacations here and there, but most of the time, I use a vacation day here and there as "mental health" days - just to get away from work for sanity sake.

However, I do have a daughter (my only child) in high school.  She's in the 11th grade and going through SAT preps at the moment.  She's more than ready for this school year to end.  In fact, she'd probably wish for next year to be completely blown off, too - I think she's ready to move onto something different than the high school learning environment and the "AP" courses that she's taking.

Yeah I understand all that. As bad as work can be, it ends at 5. And I don't have to pick most things up until 8:30 the next morning. And I have the time and money to play more now that in the past.

I have had my SR-60's close to 5 years now and they really got used very rarely in college. I did most of my dorm listening through my AR's or just listened to a DAP through my Yuins while walking around Boston. Now that I am working, it is nice to not only have the time to listen and mod them to their full potential, but also the money to support materials (wood, cables, tools, etc) and better listening equipment (first an Indeed and now hopefully a Little Dot 1+ soon). I guess thats what 9 years of working my butt off (high school and college) gets me, a marginaly amount of free time and spare money. Ah, the rat race that is life.....

I'll help out on the pictures front tonight. Hopefully my driver will arive from Bill and I can get my final (ish) assembly done and get pictures with the current Padauk iteration. Otherwise I will have pictures of a finished Padauk, Purpleheart, and Leopardwood cup lined up for the sake of comparison. The Padauk and Leopardwood cups should be all finished. I had a mishap with a Purpleheart cup and am hoping some glue, careful sanding, and refinishing will make it impossible to see. Otherwise I will be making another of those cups.

Hopefully I get my drill press online in the next week so I can get some Bubinga and Bloodwood cups made.

Having held the drivers for these headphones in my hands and having played with them out of a shell all together, I would say it sounds like the poly on the driver has been crumpled a bit.  An easy fix once you liberate a driver.  I personally destroyed a driver liberating it.  So its not easy.  Or for the faint of heart.

To be fair, this distortion is only at loud volumes with very low, punchy bass. I'd think it was my source or something else, but since the other headphone sounds perfect, I'm sure it has to do with that specific headphone.

Bah, still no driver in the mail today. The wait to listen to my 60's again is going to drive me crazy.
