I just came in my pants.
Not sure Bill is lathing Aluminum yet, he does however advocate completely liberating the driver from it's plastic. Personally I would be happy with just replacing the plastic ring with a wooden one.
I've asked before but I'll ask again, does anyone have a Beyer Headband pad they are willing to part with? I just tried to order one from Beyer N/A and they want $10 to ship a $10 headband a distance of around 50 miles or less, something I am not willing to pay for. I'd appreciate it if anyone with an extra or looking to get rid of one PM's me. Thanks.
Edd, said it before but really impressive work. I need to get moving on learning to use a lathe and see what I can turn out (pun intended).
Thanks for all the kind comments folks. I just enjoy using the lathe. The finish isnt quite as good as it looks in the photos but I have spent enough time on them.
The grills I just cut roughly to a circle with scissors, and the are superglued on the back side of the lip you can in the picture above. That way from the outside they look perfect.
Sound is a tricky one. I feel the biggest change was using the larger chamber with the free flowing mesh. I would say there is an improvement over the stock plastic cups, but the sound is pretty close between the aluminum, wood and hybrid cups.
I posted a page or so back that I made the cables detachable. I also used new cable Canare Quad Star 20awg.
