Those are gorgeous. I'm literally speechless.

They also gave me an idea:
Driver liberation + mahogany inner shell + aluminum outer shell = custom PS1000?

Modded my MS1i's few days ago.

Vented 4 holes, felt damped the chambers, damped the magnet with a sticky vinyl foot, re-did the metal grills and re-painted the silver lettering on the cups.

They sound great but only thing is I'm hearing some strange noises from the left driver now. Sort of like a light crackling/rattling noise but I don't think it's the usual grado 'grattle'. Tried blowing in the vents and sucking the mylar from the front and nothing. I damped everything pretty well so I don't know what's making the noise. Any suggestions? (I'm not going to open up the driver to check for crinkles though, too risky for me)

lol no. It's a vinyl foot, used underneath things to prevent scratching and sliding. It's just like a little chunk of rubber with a sticky bottom. Seemed perfect for the job, bit of weight to it and didn't block up the little holes on the side.

What are you using to damp the magnet back?  Is that a blob of glue or something else?

So what cable does everyone use for a recable, non-silver cheap stuff preferably? Does this stuff look good? http://www.performanceaudio.com/cgi/product_view.cgi?products_id=535

I want the cable to be detachable from the ear piece. Is the Mogami cable good that some one asked about on the previous page any good? Or what if I ran 4 conductors to each side? http://www.amazon.com/Speaker-100ft-Spool-Rated-Listed/dp/B0033HRZMS/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296612319&sr=1-5 Also does the fact that the previous cable is 14 guage matter I thought that played a role in quality? I don;t want to spend more than $5-6 dollars a foot so if you have anything better and a link that would be great.

EDIT: Think I'm just gonna start a thread about it.

The stock stuff is definitely not 14 gauge, that's massive wire. That would be getting pretty thick even for speaker wire that never moves (actually, I think that's what's on my Cerwin Vegas now). And by 4 to each, are you basically saying to do what they do with the newer 125i and up with the 8-Conductor?

And if you wanna make it detachable, why not just reterminate the stuff that's already there with a plug rather than ending it at the driver, and add a socket to the cup?

Yeah I want an 8 conductor cable to each side, how about some 12awg http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2747&seq=1&format=2 or how about monster cable from Amazon, I know their HDMI cables are a rip off but is their speaker cable any good? http://www.amazon.com/Monster-XLN12S-18SB-Standard-Speaker-Cable/dp/B002MBZVFE/ref=sr_1_23?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296612849&sr=1-23

Lower AWG# = thicker wire. The 21AWG Canare Star Quad seems to be used quite a bit. I think 18AWG is kinda inflexible if you go more than one strand, and you're talking about 4. So 20AWG seems to be the thickest you want to use for headphones from what I've seen. I think the stock is 24AWG as a reference.

Well here is my first shot with Mahogany. Took a long time to finish (with about 5 different grits of sandpaper and around 6 coats of lacquer). They look good, but I can improve further. I have enough wood for 10-12 more cups, so hopefully I will get some more cut to play around with this weekend. So far though they are finished much nicer than my oak cups. They are also a little over a 1/4" deeper as well.

I have learned some lessons, so hopefully the next go around will be even better.

I know that lower guage is thicker wire. And thicker wire is better right? So technically 4 conductor (same as stock) with 12 guage would be better right? I know it sounds crazy but this is a mod thread crazy is expected. But anyway just for reference can someone link me to the Canare from a reputable site. Also where can I get the cool looking wire wrap things?

I'm still fairly new :/
