So I just ordered K701 headphones and was wondering on a good amp setup..

would like to spend less the $250-$300 but can spend more...

most of my headphones are earbuds and bought these because  saw them in

an anime and I really like how they look! I'm kind of a noob to this headphone

with an amp kind of thing! Thanks in advance!

I have heard these headphones used with little dot valve amp and canamp solid state.

Both sounded good.

For your budget, stay with an ss or hybrid amp.

Solid State

Look over Skylab's reviews. He has linked the manufacturer and price in his rankings.

I feel that within your budget several headphones have worked well for me. The Headroom Micro Amp, the Matrix M Stage, the Little Dot MKIII are all excellent. I prefer solid state overall though so the Headroom Micro Amp or Matrix might be a good option. If you stretch you budget a bit the Gilmore Lite, even without the DPS, is amazing and, to me, beats the others. I think it competes well with amps at $1k.

If you look on the Sales Forum they do turn up. Heck, if I do get a Beta22/Sigma22 mine will be up for grabs. But only with the DPS. LoL

I'm using mine with a Purity Audio Kicas/Caliente (SS amp) and they senergize fery well. I also like them with my Musical Fidelity X-Can-V8 (Hybrid Amp) that you might be able to find used for $350.

Good luck

Just an FYI, I contacted Headroom and they don't recommend the Micro Amp with the AKGs - these 'cans need a lot of juice to power.  Just goes to show that Headroom is a class act as they were being honest and didn't just want a quick sale.  Personally, I would recommend a good used Headroom Home Amp for around $300-400.  FWIW, Stereophile has recommended the Musical Fidelity X-CAN V8 to power these AKGs.

Good luck!

Yeah, they come up pretty regularly, but one has to be fast on the draw. Here's another vote of confidence for the Gilmore Lite, it's a great amp that can drive almost all headphones with great command and control.

How about a DIY solid state amp like the M^3? They pop up once in a while in the FS forum. They fit your budget quite nicely. With DIY there's no high markups so you can get more for less $ if you buy used.
