Hot audio or uDac(2)?

Thread Starter

I will be using itunes to play lossless files to my M50's. (Portability is moot for me)

uDac v. uDac-2 v. Hot Audio Bit Perfect USB DAC

The uDac will be cheap but I could not get it new.

The uDac 2 is the most expensive and i don't need 24 bit but it has a better amp and usb thingie than the original.

The Bit Perfect can be the right fit but do they hold up well?

So which of the DAC's do you think I should go with and why?

Also, has anyone had experience with both and can rank them by sound quality?

I'd like to know as well. I'm going to buy the m50's next week. And, was considering getting the udac 2.

uDAC-2 wins over uDAC-1 on all counts except price.

The M50 is very efficient, so you don't need to turn up the knob a lot to get it loud. Some pots have imbalanced L/R volumes at the lower end. So the improved volume pot of version 2 would especially help in the M50's case. Just basing this on Stuff I've Read™ as I have not used any of these DACs myself.

OP, I suggest changing the title of the thread to something like:

uDAC or Hot Audio Bit Perfect

That way you might get more suggestions from people who have these DACs but who don't own the M50.

I have the Hotaudio Dac Destroyer (basically the Bitperfect without volume control), have auditioned the udac-1, and own the M50. Here are my thoughts:

- the dacdestroyer and udac1 are comparable, with my preference for the dacdestroyer simply due to a warmer sound

- M50 really doesn't benefit much from an amp

- even if the udac2 is marginally better, the hotaudio offerings are half the price

I have a Hot Audio DAC and like it very much. I returned my uDAC (original model) because it didn't pair well with my amp. I have replaced it with a Hot Audio DAC-Wow and the sound is more neutral with better extension at either end. (The uDAC was a bit thin in the upper mids.) If appearances matter, be aware that all Hot Audio products seem to have very utilitarian enclosures.
