Replacing the plug on Klipsch Custom 2s

Hi, there's a bad connection on the plug of my Custom 2. I believe the warranty might still be just barely valid, but I'm thinking of replacing the plug anyway, to put a Marushin or something there.

So.. what's under the cable's cloth, can anyone tell? Is the plug easy to replace, or is there paint covering the copper? Or should I use the warranty card if it still valid?

Thanks.

warranty if its valid

There's plastic wrapped around the wire under the cloth/

I know this because the cloth on mine kept breaking, and I would have to cut it at those points so the cloth wouldn't bend the cable in a u shape. Never buying Klipsch again.
