Can only connect headphone amp to iPod via iPod headphone jack. Should iPod volume be maxed or...

Thread Starter

Don't have an iPod line out dock atm - am working on it!

But if you connect the external headphone amp to the iPod headphone jack and max out the iPod volume and use the external headphone amp to control the listening volume - will that result in damage to your (high impedance, low sensitivity) headphones from clipping as the iPod internal headphone amp is straining and clipping?

Thanks

Hey Lee, does it work with iTouch 4g too?

I don't see why not -- it has the same connector. You might want to ask the seller to be sure.

Yeah, I sent him a question yesterday and he said it works with the iTouch 4g too. Just another little question: is this cable really important? I mean, as the OP questioned, would connect the iTouch directly to an amp/DAC or whatever using the headphone jack as a sound out connector damage any of the devices?

This cable is like a cheaper version of that LOD cable people sell for almost U$100, right? Function-wise?

LOD's should never cost you $100's, there ARE $200+ LOD's but that doesn't mean you should buy them. $2-$10 will get you something that will be good enough if your looking for one. As for having one over a 3.5mm jack I'm not sure, I've never seen evidence so say the LOD is better.

Thanks for your reply. Could you suggest some cheap and good LOD, within the price range you mentioned?

Thanks Double F. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't ship to my country, I'll look for it on ebay or other stores.

There is always the DIY route or having another member here on Head-fi make you one of equal of higher quality.

Definately go with a lineout, even if it costs you $20 on ebay.  Much better than going through the hp jack.

Just because something is cheaper does not mean it is worse. I haven't encountered any evidence to suggest that a dock connector to line out less than 1 metre long will have ANY difference in sound quality over a 2 dollar one. Market price is regulated by how much people are willing to pay, not by production value or item value.

In order words it's all a scam, cause it's more than likely that all these cables are being made in the same factory in China.

I certainly agree with you Leee, but I ended up buying a LOD cable from Fiio (the L3 one) for about 20 bucks.. I don't know how to explain it but paying more for something gives a "safety" feeling, and I thought 20 bucks weren't that bad, considering that the iPod cost about 300 bucks. Yeah, I know I sound a little dumb, but I'm not as brave as you are.
