How to sell headphones on this forum?

I'd like to try and sell my headphones on this forum, but how does the money part happen?

Paypal or Western Union or such is most common. Unless you sell it to someone local, then you can do cash, which was probably common sense.

Also a money order, but you would need feedback (not necessarily but it would help).

Also suggest if you're accepting PayPal as payment is to roll the 3% or whatever you want to charge in to the asking price, so sell for $103, not $100+3%PayPal as the later is less attractive and can put some people off unless you're a MOT (member of the trade) or operating as a storefront.  Lastly, get some feedback under you name.  There's been a rise of fraud here and not having credibility will hurt and prolong your sale.   Good luck.

Post pics of your item. Also with a piece of paper with your Head-Fi name and that day's date on it. Price competitively. Be AVAILABE for questions. There's nothing worse than waiting for a response to a question when I want to buy. Be flexible with more established members. Be completely honest. Your reputation is everything.

And the selling price needs to be set sensibly and not close to the price of a new ones .

+1 on that.  Just ask what you want.  If it is a firm price, say so.  If you have shipping preferences, say so.  And if I make you an offer that you don't like have the courtesy to respond.  I’m not low-balling.  I’m haggling for what I think is a fair price.

Yeah, I hate it when I have to wait 1-2 days when someone is selling something for a response. I try and get back within 12 hours. I usually check head-fi if I get an email saying I have a PM, or if I am selling something on here.

Edit: Also, you should probably sell to a well-known member for your first sale, since lets say they want to send a MO but they don't trust you, you could offer to ship first if they have a good reputation.

and part of the way for everyone to know what's a fair price is to leave your ad intact, ie. DON'T remove the price when the deal is complete, as is popular in certain quarters around here. just edit your first post &/or the title to indicate that the item is sold (see skullguise's (one of the really really good guys on head-fi!) many for sale posts for guidance)

Excellent point. One I've used before.

Great tips everyone. These are good guidelines for anyone trying to sell on head-fi.

Why DO people do that? I want to make a trade and I'm trying to figure out the average value of the phones I have and when I do a search for previous sales the majority of the prices have been removed. Why?

My guess is it has something to do with not influencing the future asking price of an item. If a certain pair of headphones gets sold for a really low price, future sellers can still ask for higher prices on that item without having people cite that earlier thread demanding the price be lowered.

I agree that it's an annoying practice, and it makes trying to establish a fair "average" price difficult because of the fear of lowballing.
