1. What does hyperthreading or turbo boost do? I know that it speeds up the cpu performance but how?
2. Does a quad core cpu loses its ability to perform multitask calculations when using turbo boost?
3. Which one is better for gaming. A 1.73 ghz quad core i7 cpu that can be hyperthreaded to 2.93 or a dual core 2.4 that can be hyperthreaded to 3.06 ghz.
4. Is it better to get a a dual 1 gb videocard or a single 2 gb graphics card?
5. How do you turn on turbo boost or hyperthreading.
Thanks.
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-threading for hyperthreading. Turbo boost overclocks the CPU (slightly) when needed. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13512_3-10362882-23.html
2. No idea, dont think so tho.
3. Depends on the dual core and work situations and platform (desktop vs desktop, desktop vs laptop, laptop vs laptop). And its overclocked, not hyperthreaded :p But an i7 @ 3ghz will prolly perform better overal than any other CPU @ 3ghz on the same platform. Btw, 1.73ghz i7 = 820QM?
4. If the cards are the same (like 2x HD5870 1gb vs 1x HD5870 2gb): dual cards will perform better if you can run them in CFX or SLI. Other than that look at benchmarks and such to determine the right price/performance ratio for you. Do note that 1gb + 1gb is not a total of 2gb of videocard memory when 2 1gb cards run in CFX or SLI. Only 1gb is effectively used.
5. In bios.
