How do I buy from Audio-GD

Thread Starter

Folks, I've been looking into an upgrade for my AC '97 Realtek soundcard + Harmon Kardon receiver to power my AKG 702s, and possibly some Denon AH-7000s a bit down the road.  From what I've read on here, it seems like the Audio-GF Fun is worth a try.  I checked out their website as well as Pacific Valve, and I can't help but notice there is a pretty big price spread between the two.  Pacific Valve has the Fun for $398, shipping included, while the Audio-gd website lists 205-345 plus 55 bucks shipping.

Question 1: Why does the Audio-gd website have a $140 spread on the prices?  I see that there are different modules for the DAC/Amp, so is that was is driving the price difference?  Obviously cheaper is better, so just trying to straighten out the apparent price difference.  If there are different models of the Fun available, could someone just give me an overview of the difference?

Question 2: How the heck do I actually order from Audio-gd's website?  I went to the "Purchase" tab, and that led me to a simple little chart "Select goods -->Post remittance-->Confirm remittance (by E-mail) --> Deliver goods" that doesn't quite fill in all the blanks for me.  I saw a few bank accounts listed and then a PayPal account (my preferred), but nothing else helpful. If anyone has experience buying through them, please direct me as to what I have to do, since buying through Pacific Valve is gonna cost me lots of extra money.  Thanks for the time.

1) Well, you can always just ask a retailer why they choose to set a price as they do...  though I think any retailer can set any price they choose, you can choose where to buy what product, though I figure a manufacturer will have it cheaper than a retailer.

2) Email

I found that buying from Pacific Valve was actually cheaper and easier for me. YMMV. The FUN, at least, should come out to roughly equal in price. Are you sure you're comparing the prices for the same version?

I've ordered both ways -- from Pacific Valve and from Audio-GD directly. Both transactions went without a hitch -- prices are almost exactly the same when you compare identical models, and shipping time was within a day or two as well.

I believe the apparent price discrepancies are due to two factors: shipping (included in PV's prices, not included when ordering directly from Kingwa), and the sometimes confusing number of options available directly from A-GD vs. the relative lack thereof from PV. It seems that Pacific Valve prefers to select one set of features per unit and run with it -- they'll often reference a "PV model" that's really just the retailer picking a trim level and offering it as "the item."

You can't go wrong either way.
