Haha.  Part of this hobby's journey is learning what you like and what you don't like.  The other part is finding earphones that actually fit your ideals.  The big challenge is everyone's ideals are different.  For you, I would readily suggest the Custom 3.  If you can live with the cord or can readily accept that the future of them will likely be a cord swap or custom molds, they are down right amazing and only about a half step down from the absolute best of the best at 1/3 the price tag.  Not everyone's looking for the same thing though.  Some people also don't want a product that has sub-par build quality.

I just bought a pair...I'll letcha know soon  smily_headphones1.gif

How long should I expect to burn them in before I'll know what they really sound like?

I voted 'yes' cause I do enjoy these right now, but I was looking to get a 'fun' phone when I bought these.  I was looking to cut the Shure umbilical cord, and I'm quite happy with my purchase, but I realize different people want different things in their selections.  If I was looking for something balanced and analytical, I'd look somewhere else.  If you want that V shape thing in a really solid package, these should do fine.

My only real gripe with these sound wise is the slight sibilance that I get with clearly sung 's' sounds.  So far, the worst I've heard has been on Simon and Garfunkel's America when the line "she was sleeping" is being sung; it's fairly noticeable but for me, not intolerable.  Right now though I'm pretty sure that at the very least these will be my go to hip-hop/rap iem's for quite some time.  Not that they don't do well with other genres, but something about the bass on these things makes be want to listen to some Biggie or Tupac.

Just spent the evening listening to my new HJE900's, and while the sound is somewhat less mature than it could be (which I've read may improve from burn in), I'm enjoying how dynamic these phones are.  +1 for them!

To be fair the entire Bookends album is extremely sibilant in certain iterations - you can hear it with any reasonably flat earphone or headphone. The vinyl isn't so bad but the CD is terrible.. a lot of Simon and Garfunkel albums are.

I was wondering that because I don't notice sibilance that much any more on other stuff, but it's still prevalent on that song.  (it's on the greatest hits cd)

Edit: Also, I think hand drums sound especially good on these phones.

Mine is on the way from JR as we speak. I quite look forward to hearing them, although I am quite afraid of the mentioned sibilance

I say it alot but sibilance is easily remedied with the right tips or by inserting foam into the nozzle. Complies, for instance, eliminate any semblance of sibilance. To my ears, anyway. Those tame the highs too much for me though.

I just wanted to chime in and say I have been enjoying a lot my HJE900s since I got them 2 days ago.

Out of the box, they were too V-shaped/harsh/compressed/crowded for my taste, so very quickly I decided to put the foam from the RE2 and replaced the cheap filter with the spare ones in the RE0/ZERO's box. That smoothed the tone out while maintaining the details. After this neat improvement, I recalled the fact that my RE2s and RE252s were barely listenable without the foam, so no surprises there.

No need to look after 'magic' tips, they already sound GREAT with the stock ones. They still lack refinement in the treble region, but the overall tone is very pleasant and musical. Great mids and wonderful bass.

I still prefer my RE0s for complex recordings (sympho metal and such), but other than that..

I wish they had the highs of the Triple.Fi 10, that would've been a combo killer.

These are going for about $100 now, cheaper used, and they are well balanced, well extended in response.  They do offer a robust, decently natural sounding note, not great SQ but likable, and is a budget (to some) earphone.  For anyone who hasn't used a high end earphone and is coming from cheapies, these will be likable and do offer an upgrade and likely numerous improvements to what they're used to.  For someone like me who has used better, I do see all the shortcomings.  However, for a $100 product, they aren't bad.  I personally may lean someone to a few other options at $100 like the C751, Custom 3, or RE-ZERO which all have superior SQ at the same price point, but it will always come down to personal preference and what you seek.  Is the HJE900 an amazing device?  No.  Is the HJE900 good for a $100 product?  Yes.  Are there better options at $100?  Depends.  It all depends on the properties you seek.  Because I am an SQ geek, I'd just tell you to stop being a fool and buy the Custom 3 already, but I do see value in the HJE900 for individuals seeking what it offers.

I guess we all have different ears because I don't agree with this at all. I only agree with the bold...Like woah, this is completely the opposite of what I feel, I come from the Phonak's. Which I KNOW has details galore, being a analytical phone and all, I just don't agree with this, but to each is own, but this is not what my ears hear. I wonder did you get a dud.....The way Joker described the Radius is this sentence is excactly how I feel about how the Pana's present details, it's phenomenal coming from the way armatures present details to this. It's also relaxing and a much better and refreshing NATURAL way coming from a armature setup. I don't want to be in the studio I want to be at the nightclub, I rest my case.

(I’ve said in the past that what a lot of the high-end multiple-BA IEMs do best is dissect a piece of music into the tiniest details to display the most minute intricacies present on the track. The Radius achieves the same result by opposing means – rather than dissecting the music, it presents an exquisitely blended sound that’s refined enough for the tiniest details to make themselves quite obvious. A side effect is that the the DDM takes a bit of getting used to and might not sound entirely natural at first listen.)

Mine are on the way from J&R in NYC.  I'll reserve this spot for my comments next week.
