no mention of what headphones it was underpowered for and well, ummm you compared it to home amps running ac power without its ac power? seems like a nobrainer if you were using cans that required large voltage swing.

 

if you can handle a dedicated solution for both do it though

Indeed the claim that tube amps don't have the power of SS amps to bring headphones to life has at least to be qualified by the headphones in question. For high ohms, such as Beyer Manufacture 600 ohm models, an OTL tube amp provides precisely the required oomph by its ability to swing voltage.
