CD drive output to DAC ?

Hi all,

I'd like to know if it's possible to connect the digital output of a CD drive (TTL level) to a DAC with DIR9001 chip. It seems DIR9001 has one cmos compatible input others are 5V compatible, is it safe to connect the CD drive to a budget chinese DAC I can buy on ebay or do I need an interface like this one:

(sorry for my poor english)

Standard S/PDIF coaxial interface is not TTL level, so you will need a level-shifter circuit such as the one you quoted.

Thanks for your answer amb, I think I'll use this converter between the CD player and this DAC:
