As the title says, which system would provide a fuller bass output: BX5A or the AV40 with Bass Boost turned on?

I currently have the AV40 which I purchased a couple days ago. I'm very happy with it. It replaced my Logitech speakers (X-230) which had a subwoofer, so now I'm just wondering if the BX5A would provide increased bass output compared to the AV40.

Thanks!

The BX5a has fuller bass and it is noticeably cleaner sounding bass as well. At times the AV40 bass sounds like a mess. For songs that don't require a lot of bass, sometimes I forgot that I didn't plug in my subwoofer but then again I don't listen to mainstream music that has bassy beats.

The BX5a sounds better than the AV40 by a good margin, wish I had never purchased the AV40 and should have jumped straight to the BX5a instead.

Yeah, I bought the AV40s first and wish I hadn't. I now have the BX5As but they are on their way out too. I have the CX5s on the way.

WIll the BX5A sound better than my AV40 even plugged directly to my MacBook Pro (no DAC)? I have the budget to buy the BX5A but I worry that I won't get the full benefits if I don't have a USB DAC, and honestly I don't really want to buy one. Also, I listen mostly to Spotify (320kbps OGG) - not lossless.

I would say yes. I had the BX5As over my brother's place and he is using onboard sound and they still were a mile ahead of the AV40s. If you have the money, I would skip the AV40s and go right to the BX5As. Then you can do what I did, and use the AV40s for your tv.

That's my plan, but sub in BX8A for BX5A :)
