Hi, your HP3 is an orthodynamic headphone which means it needs lots of current to work good. If you have good DIY skills a Cavalli CTH amp should do the trick for hardly $200 - $250.

Else a Schiit Ascard or a Matrix MStage will do the trick. Both sell for about $250 - $270. The Schiit is currently out of stock but its made in the US with a 5 year warranty. I believe the Schiit will be ready for shipping by the end of August.

The MStage is a chinese amp based on a much more expensive Lehman Black Cube linear.

bro,u own HP-2 too?haha, mine one is HP-3(orthos),that mean the Cavalli CTH amp,Schiit Ascard n Matrix MStage also a good choice to drive HP-3?Disappointed is my country cant really get a good amp, must buy from oversea.so just prefer 2nd amp.

Hey, I face the same issue as you. In India the only headphone amps you get are the Fiio E3, E5 and thats about it.

The HP2/HP3 share the same drivers so they both equally difficult to drive. So you need headphones which have a good amount of power.

At around $250 - $300 you can get many good headphone amps which can drive the HP3s properly. However I haven't heard them so not sure which one will sound the best.

The Matrix M-Stage has got very good feedback and its currently available.

I dont think you can go wrong with the M-Stage. :)

so now What are you using an amp the drive your HP-2?now i using Zero DAC,not bad actually, just about 11o'clock is enough.but I think it will be batter

if I drive will batter amp.Now i also aim for Maverick D1,high recommended also. But other issue is right DAC.If u got good amp without DAC also

can't sound sweet. Now I don't know whether to get DAC+amp or DAC separately with amp.

Separates are generally always preferred to an all in one solution.

If your budget is around $350 or so, then get a Music Streamer II with the Matrix M-Stage.

The music streamer has got very good reviews and its pretty cheap at $149.

I have heard the Maverick and IMO its nothing great. But that was a new piece, maybe the sound would have improved with burn-in.

Btw, which country do you live in ?

I live in Malaysia.U heard it before?haha,my budget about $200.I think the Music Streamer II will not bad.But for the Matrix M-Stage is a bit expensive when plus the shipment. Now still planning.haha...

Hey if you are in Malaysia, buy a bus ticket and head over to nearby Singapore. Go to Jaben or some other store that allows you to audition stuff and choose an amp there.

Now in Malaysia also got Jaben Malaysia already...haha...but prefer 2nd hand...Now thinking what DAC + Amp with my limit budget.

You can head down to Jaben and audition the amps there. The Singapore store is sure to have a more variety of amps though. If you find something that you like you like, you can check out the buy/sell section of jaben.net for that DAC/AMP.

now aim for Audinst hub-mx1,it is small and powerful enough to drive my HP-3, and it done well in DAC section...

^^ Actually I woudn't recommend that.

It will be a small upgrade from your zero.

It would be better if you saved up and get a more significant upgrade rather than a small upgrade.

My 2 cents

but my plan is buy the M-stage amp then the Audinst just be the DAC...it is a good plan?

Oh, in that case yes go ahead. In fact, my friend is working in Singapore and he is coming down to India next month and I have asked him to get the Audinst Mx-1 for me.

So make sure you dont finish the stock before my friend buys it !

but the seller said that Audinst not so WOW for the season veterans...so now still thinking to get Audinst or not...but i know the DAC section of Audinst is not bad...as DAC preamp output also not bad plan...
